Giant Otter on the move

One of the Giant Otter brothers (Akuri) who transfered from Chestnut Centre last year is due to be exported to Emperor Valley Zoo in Trinidad later in the Summer as part of the breeding program. He will be joining an unrelated female who was wild caught in Venezuela by poachers before being dumped at the zoo in question: Statement from NFWP's facebook

If you have a local paper you may have read one of our Giant Otters Akuri is moving on. He is to go and live in Trinidad at Emperor Valley Zoo. His move is recommended by the Giant Otter Studbook which is held at Dortmund Zoo in Germany.

He is now 2 and an ideal age to meet a female and hopefully breed. The female in Trinidad is unrelated and is 4 - she was taken from the wild in Venezuela by illegal poachers and then dumped at the zoo gates.

Akuri has some experience of family life as he has already helped his parents Panambi and Manoki (at the Chestnut Centre) to bring up his younger siblings Meamu and Katuma.

We are waiting for paperwork to be completed by Defra and Trinidad and he will be on his way hopefully within the next 6 weeks.
