The Nonsense Thread

The twists! The turns! Will we ever make it to 2004 posts? Stay tuned!

Also the thread was started in 2012 so we will likely never make it to 2004 posts, unless there are some technological advancements in backwards-time-travel-post-making. But that's just science fiction.

Disclaimer: this post is currently a 2004 post.

Now that really would be nonsensical when I could be the 2000th, and then lock the thread for a bit so you can't reply immediately :p
Idk why my 2000-2 post triggered you to do that and flex your authoritative powers but I’ll take it.

inb4 you deleted this post as well

A little :p Fun fact: June 9 marked the 10 year anniversary of me starting to visit zoos seriously and catalogue the taxa I see at them. I was 13 at the time.

10 years is a long time, its almost a decade.
In that time, what has stood out for you as really good fun and any particular special moments? Any species you consider yourself lucky to see......
Are you looking forwards to the next 10 years?

Hmm I would definitely say just having the opportunity to travel to so many great zoos both in the US and in Europe and having had the opportunity to meet so many members that have now become good friends irl (@Ituri @TeaLovingDave @ShonenJake13 @Nisha @jayjds2 to name a few) has been the most fun. My 2018 Europe trip and my recent St. Louis-Wichita jaunt stand out as particularly memorable for many good reasons. Going to California and seeing wild whales and elephant seals is definitely another.

There are so many species I consider myself lucky to have seen, probably more than I can think of on the spot if I'm honest. Some that particularly stand out are Striped Possum, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Panay Bushy-Tailed Cloud Rat, Red-Shanked Douc, pika, Northern Elephant Seal, both aardwolves, pangolins, Ethiopian Eagle-Owl, Arakan Forest Turtle, Ploughshare Tortoise, Whale Shark, manta rays... Then of course there are the species I see regularly at Bronx that I must remember I am lucky to have so close me (Greater Malay Chevrotain, Maleo, Pink Pigeon, Red BOP, etc.).

While I am cautiously optimistic about the next decade from a global socio-political standpoint, I am excited to see where my adventures take me. 2020 threw a lot of wretches at a lot of my plans but I am hoping to explore at least a new continent or two before I hit 30 (and therefore officially geriatric).

I can see you have certainly enjoyed your time and learnt much in the last 10 years. Good stuff mate.
It's a bloody good hobby this animal work isn't it, it can take you down many directions of interest in which one can really specialise in specifics.

I keep pushing myself really hard with zoo visits because at 33, I've only got a few good years left before I need a walker and can't drive at night :P
