Earth Hour is tonight everyone!! All EST Americans, don't forget to turn off all your lights at 8:30pm tonight! For everyone else I think you'd do it at whatever time is equivalent to 8:30 here.

The website is not loading quickly. After 10 seconds, I closed it off.

Would it per chance be about Kanye naming his baby "North" as a joke? Get it? North West?

No it's about North Korea making a propaganda video showing their army storming across the border into South Korea, destroying towns with tanks and missiles, and taking thousands of US citizens and soldiers hostage.

Customer service, Australian style :p
Brisbane store charges $5 fee to browse

Interesting, and I do see the shop-owners point.

The other day I went to a farmer's market on campus, and they wanted a gold coin for entry. We refused to pay that, as its like paying to enter a mall. It certainly doesn't make sense. We spent money at a couple of the stalls, so its not like we were just browsing. Presumably the stall-holders pay some sort of fee to be present, so why does the organiser need to charge visitors too?

Damn immigrants come here and don't want to conform. :D Gold coin entry is quite common these days, so get used to it! I went to a cat showand had to pay a gold pound entry recently.

If you want to protest on principle, then just don't enter at all. Did you walk straight past the guy collecting cash, or did you have a discussion and he waved you through?

but were you going to be buying cats whilst at the show?

Paying to simply enter a shop to look at the products is ridiculous, and surely it must affect their overall sales? (Note that in my link the place in question is an actual shop, not a market with many shops or stalls contained within). I know that if I had to pay $5 just to enter the shop then I simply wouldn't bother going in unless I already knew exactly what I was going there for.

Nah, I we went to watch, but there were lots of cat-related paraphernalia on sale. So not a shop per se, but we did buy some junk.

Yeah I think it's a case of wanting to enter the shop bad enough. Are they the only shop in a 10km radius? Surely it's not a big deal if a shop owner charges people to set foot on their property, given that you can always shop elsewhere? It's not like taxes being increased where I have no choice whatsoever.

I went to Domaine Chandon winery the other day and you have to pay $5 or something to taste wine, but if you buy something, it is refunded to you. I wonder if zooboy28 will refuse to pay and still drink the wine? :D

I think there is quite a difference between going to a place where the main objective is exhibition (e.g. a museum, cat show, car show, etc) and a place where the main objective is sales (e.g. a shop, mall, farmers market). Or looking at it more simply, whether the place is essentially not-for-profit or a business.

We walked straight past the guy. Or more technically around behind the guy when he was talking to someone else...

Haha. Damn immigrants - always bring their bad habits to Australia. :D

I saw a scrapyard advertising on TV to come buy stuff for cheap, but the cost of entry is a gold coin. This is normal in Australia - Victoria any way - so you will have to get accustomed to seeing that everywhere. Just pay a dollar: it's not a bank breaker. The other one you will see is where they ask for a gold coin donation (as compared to an entry fee).
