The Nonsense Thread

Do we have a "help me find an animal" thread? As in help find a specific individual animal. For example, you know that say, a Northern White Cheeked Gibbon was born at the City Zoo in 2000 and you want to know where it went after it was transferred out of the zoo and how it is doing. Or an Elephant named Betty was owned by a private owner and gave rides at fairs but she isn't there anymore and you want to know what happened to her (these are both hypothetical examples meant to give you a feel for what kind of a thread it would be, please do not try to find said example animals.)

no but you can start one if you want to. However, generally, if people want to find out something specific like that then they would ask the question in a thread for the zoo the animal came from (or in a specifically-created thread subtitled for that zoo), or maybe in the country forum in the case of a privately-held elephant.

I'm amazed you even open these, I heard that some of them have viruses that can infect your computer just by being opened. Unless you have Linux. I think. Except I know there are some cross platform viruses now.
 
I got told that in the UK the water is hard and that you have to put salt in the washing machine, is that true or is someone trying to tease me?

I don't know if the water is hard in the UK but all the rest is true. We were messing around with it in chemistry a few days ago. Variants of salt or similar things work also- we used washing soda. Basically hard water has a hard time absorbing things. This is a problem as the soap won't make suds. Just add something to soften it and it works just fine.

Not in all of the UK- just in some areas. by 'Hard', they mean it has a high concentration of calcium and magnesium ions- it is just as liquid as elsewhere :p
 
The water in my house in Kingston-upon-Thames is very hard, we basically get concrete coming out of the taps. :p
It's a lot of fun when you have water balloon fights ;)

Does anyone know of Maris Piper potatoes are as highly regarded in the UK as I am told they are? I'm told they make excellent (the best actually) fries, or should I be calling them chips?
