The Only Ones In Britain

Sun Bears

I think this thread already knows RSCC has sun bears. Sorry. Put it down to "Old timers disease". Then put me down.

For Living Coasts you can also add
Tufted Puffins
Red-legged Kittiwakes
Pigeon Guillemot

Paignton Zoo is also the only place to see
Grey Gulls

Birdland has the UKs only Carmine Bee Eaters, Grey Tree Pie & Blue Winged Minla (according to ISIS)

and of course England's only King Penguins :D

If we're playing that game I look forward to seeing someone type out Belfast's entire stocklist as Northern Ireland's only.... :D

RSCC - Sri Lankan giant squirrel, New Guinea singing dog and the amazing rufous and black elephant shrew, which surely must be the only ones on public show in Europe?

To be honest I doubt the elephant shrew is on show, a few of their rarer species aren't. Very annoying when you travel 4 hours to see the bloody place

The Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park aquaired a pair of Common palm civets in 2009, came from a private breeder. A vanishing species in european collections.

The only macroscelid species in the UK zoos is the Short-eared Elephant Shrew at Marwell Wildlife. I saw their single female in the African Aridlands House for a short time when I was there in the end of April.

And now there does not seem to be any rocky mountain goat left in the UK either, and with Marwell taking on a pair of black wildebeest, Newquay loses its singular status.

Marwell's elephant shrew is the only one in the UK? Wow, I genuinely never knew that.

Correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure London has a species off elephant shrew, i remember seeing it in the Clore before it was changed to the rainforest exhibit. Im assuming it has moved on?
