whats this another thread full of lists (i love it), i will try and put down as many collections and animals that i know that have the only ones of their kind in britain.
edinburgh - koala, polar bear, japanese serow, thorolds deer, bawean deer, lesser kudu, wolverine, siberian musk deer, marbled polecat, darwins rhea?
highland wildlife park - european elk, kiang, chinese grey goral, bharal, japanese macaque?
belfast - sun bear, black footed cat?
chester - grey throated conure, tuatara,
london - panay cloud rat, woolly necked stork
marwell - sable antelope, addra gazelle, sahwari dorcas gazelle
colchester - rocky mountain goat
twycross - crowned guenon, red howler monkey, bonobo
cotswold wp - white lipped peccary, morelets crocodile
howletts - mitred langur, grizzled langur, african wildcat
port lympne - guinea baboon
africa alive - blesbok
banham - sri lankan leopard
bristol - fairy penguin
thrigby hall - mugger crocodile, estuarine crocodile
paignton - cuban crocodile

Twycross Zoo no longer houses Red Howler Monkeys, we still have the Black Howler. We may have plans for the Red Howlers again in the future.

Oh man I've gotta get over to Britain soon.
You guys have just the most amazing array of species on display over there!
I'm green with envy. (And I bet most zoo-goers over there don't appreciate what they've got.)

I think there's quite a few collections in the UK that have kea. They are actually relatively common overseas (that is, relative to other NZ birds), and there are also quite a number being kept by private aviculturists also, especially in the UK and Europe.
 
what I find interesting is that only one zoo in the whole of the UK has polar bears, and only one has sun bears.

Correction- its only one Polar Bear. She's called Mercedes and has lived, (apparently quite happily)alone at Edinburgh since her mate died a long time ago now. Edinburgh are now talking about possibly continuing with Polar Bears at their Highland Wildlife Park.

In the 1960's, every major Zoo in GB had Polar bears, but they were phased out everywhere else mainly due to concerns about welfare(stereo-typed behaviour).
 
Belfast keeps crowned Sifaka's :)

And when i was in Edinburgh Mercedes showed VERY stereotypical behaviour, there was even a plate explaining it...
 
How long has Bristol had Fairy Penguins?

London should surely have plenty of onlys. There's the Panay Cloud Rat, Woolly-necked Stork you mentioned, also the only Grey Tufted Langur, Sloth Bear and Abdim's stork and now I'm stuck?
 
London still has boomslang. Also Coastal Tapian and Death Adder.

Bristol imported 10 Fairy Penguins in 2004. There is only one left now. They were thinking of sending it to Cologne.

South Lakes has Belted Ruffed Lemurs, which I never thought were a valid subspecies until I saw them.

Hamerton has Oncillas and Peruvian Mountain Viscachas.

Living Coasts claim to have the only captive Red-legged Kittiwakes in the world.

Jersey has Keel-scaled Boas.

Colchester has Slender-snouted Crocodiles.
 
the grey tufted langur at london are they not hanuman langur and i thought they were also at exmoor. there is also a male sifaka at port lympne which shares his enclosure with a male ruffed lemur. trotters world of animals claims to have britains only canadian lynx. i think hamerton has britains only corsac fox.

The Hanuman Langurs at London Zoo are of the Sri Lankan race. From a group of about ten when introduced to the Sloth Bear exhibit, I don't think there are many left now.

'Exmoor' (Combe Martin WP, not Exmoor WP..) had three or four, possibly from the London group, or direct from Bristol or Twycross which also both kept them at one time. The group at London were bred from animals originating at both Bristol and Twycross. Neither of those zoos keep this species anymore.

woburn safari park - timor deer, vietnamese sika deer
twycross - michies tufted deer
linton - white collared brown lemur
amazon adventure, isle of wight - yellow armadillo, southern tamandua
drayton manor - pig tailed macaque
south lakes - tammar wallaby, brush tailed rock wallaby, swamp wallaby, brush tailed possum
blackpool - wallaroo
highland wildlife park - european forest reindeer
edinburgh - european souslik
london - bearded pig
paignton - short nosed echidna
whipsnade - brolga
according to isis paradise park at broxbourne also has a corsac fox

I saw it two years ago. I also saw the first Owston's Palm Civet to be born in the UK. This species can also be seen at Newquay and Thrigby Hall.

Plenty of other places have tamandua but I had a look on ISIS and apparently Amazon Adventure have a unique subspecies. It may be a case that other UK collections keeping the species keep this ssp but just don't know/or list it as being.

Are Chester's Galapagos Tortoise the only in the country?
