Speaking of Quaggas- Edinburgh Museum has a mounted Quagga which I deduced is actually the last one from London Zoo- the stripes on the neck match exactly with the live animal in the b/w photos... (The Tring Quagga came from somewhere else...)

My book says that the quagga from Knowsley died in 1853. It adds that the mounted quagga which Walter Rothschild bought for Tring in 1889 is reputed to be the same specimen.

I've just had a look at the Quagga Project data on the museum specimens.

1. The 'last' Quagga lived at Amsterdam from 1867- 1883 so definately not the one from Knowsley.

2. The skeleton of the Tring Quagga was mounted in AMSTERDAM in 1855, two years after the Knowlsey animal's death so is very likely the same animal. Tring obtained the skin in 1889 as you said. The Skeleton is now lost.

Amazon World,Screaming Armadillo.

Cotswold Wildlife Park,Striped Possum(off show i believe for the time been).
Newquay Zoo,Hairy-rumped Agouti.
Paignton Zoo,Nine-banded Armadillo.
Suffolk Wildlife Park(Refuse to use the stupid AA name they call it now),Straw-coloured Fruit Bat.
 
the striped possum at cotswold wp are they the animals originally bred at london

No..I haven't been this year. Last year they were on the little island and house which is near the entrance to the Gorilla's side of the Apehouse. Gone?

Was there a new male Orangutan at Paignton?

Sorry you are quite correct they have still got Swamp Monkeys they are where you said they were only checked my notes for Monkey Heights,as for male Orangutan didn`t see one and wasn`t aware they were getting one but will check when down their in December.

I'd never heard the name screaming armadillo before! I've always known them as little hairy armadillos. Where does "screaming" come from? Do they actually make some kind of screaming noise?

its been on /off for months. I'm not sure whether they are going to get one or not now. At one stage it said one was arriving 'by Easter' but nothing came of it.
 
Edinburgh zoo has imported 4 ocellated turkey from where i don't know, but they are saying these are the only ones in the UK, i think Banham had them about 10 years ago.

I found out recently via the Forum that most of Southport's Mandrill group went here when it closed- he already had a trio of Mandrills so must now have about a dozen in total.

Heythropp certainly had a polar bear and an asiatic black bear when I last visited but that was around 3 years ago. Will ask Jim when I next see him. They also have (I think) the only group of dromedary camels in the UK. Also a large group of mandrill.
