Duikers will return to United Kingdom ! And a new species..In a few month, one zoo will get Red forest duikers ( Cephalophus natalensis ):)

Fantastic news! Naturally I'm hoping for Marwell, as they were bred for quite a long time there in the past, but then it'd greedy cos they've already recieved black wildebeest this year. :) My bets are on Edinburgh or Cotswold due to their growing collections of rarely kept species, or even the RSCC (though I hope not; they're short on space): But congratulations to whoever it may be!

Marwell has kept blue duikers and Maxwell's duikers in the past.

Are you sure about red forest duikers being kept and bred at Marwell?

This is great news have seen a few of this species over in Germany cannot wait to see them in the U.K,all been well i will not have far to travel to see them.

Red Forest Duiker seems to be a new species for the UK, from what ZebraDuiker has posted. Wherever they end up, I'm sure a lot of members of this forum will be going to see them.

Again I would love to see them at Chester Zoo! If they are much further then it's going to be a long time before I can go and see them.

It wouldn't be the mystery animal Belfast is getting would it? Though I doubt with Chester, Marwell, London possible contenders Belfast would get them

I know the zoo who got the duikers and where they are come from, but I can't post it at this time. Be a little be patient....

London Zoo has kept red forest duikers before the second world war, but I don't know, if they ever have bred.

London Zoo had a red forest duiker as long ago as 14th March 1880.

It is excellent news that this species is returning to the UK.

Is this Chester's mystery ungulate by any chance?

So we're looking for Europe's only? Dammit, thought I was on to something lol.

Yeah that was my first thought aswell Ashley. I was suprised to see just how many zoos on the continent keep them.

I thought the opposite and wondered where the spare animals would come from unless somewhere was going to give up on there species.
