The 'sense' thread

I find nothing more boring than a wedding, so now my friends Sharon and Michelle are getting hitched  its another boring day out.
the picture in my head is of the priest saying "if there is anybody here..etc etc" and you in the back row going "boooooooriiiing!"

Pretty much so, and in Homer Simpson style too.

what grinds my gears about weddings is the standing around doing nothing. People you don't know come up to you and smile as if they know you adn out of politeness I smile back!. It is usually a hot day and I am dressed in a suit or other unsuitable clobber. Unless part of the direct family the food served is naff. Drinks are over priced and not cool enough. I will be missing an important sporting event to attend the wedding. Speeches are boring the majority of the time. Despite attending the wedding, you know that 5 or 6 years down the line it will all end in divorce (on occasions).

Standing around doing nothing? I love the quick weddings so you can get straight on to the eating drinking and scoring with bridesmaids

I am thinking home-grown terrorism, but not like the British Muslims from the London bombings. I am thinking more Timothy McVeigh. Let's see where the investigation goes.

According to a BBC newsfeed:

"Some people have been confusing Chechnya - where the bomb suspects originated - with the Czech Republic. The Czech ambassador to Washington, Petr Gandalovic, has issued a statement on this "most unfortunate misunderstanding"" :D

I believe the Czech ambassador is here in Texas now dealing with the West tragedy.

And from overseas, there's the story of the Palestinian terrorists in Israel, thrown off by a daylight savings clock change, whose bomb exploded while they were still transporting it. :D

I actually read that on an "Interesting Facts" page a few weeks ago.

But, you know, ThylacineAlive has no life, so of course he hears about things eons before everyone else does.

hehe I heard about it on a TV show two years ago. And that was back when I did have a life. Today I don't have a life to the point where I hardly watch TV anymore:D

Captain 'Winkle' Brown: Is he the greatest pilot ever?

Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown has flown more types of aircraft than anyone in history, survived 11 crashes, interrogated high-ranking Nazis, and met everyone from Winston Churchill to Neil Armstrong.
greatest pilot ever.....survived 11 crashes.....hmmmm

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. ;)

I thought Chuck Yeager was the greatest pilot ever, but this dude seems to have had a more colourful life.
I don't know Chuch Yeager. Was he as good as Maverick from Top Gun?

Last weekend 75 year old Yuri Yudin, a russian economist, passed away. This was notable as he was the sole survivor of the Dyatlov Pass Incident (of 1959).

Never having heard of the Dyatlov Pass Incident I looked it up, and it makes a very interesting little read.
