The true Zoochatter?

An interesting comment on another thread leads me to ask generally - who or what is a true Zoochatter!

The two extreme stereotypes cited are the Lister and the Lingerer!

The lister can get round 3 collections in a day, getting satisfaction from having 'been there, seen that'

The lingerer is still at collection one revisiting an enclosure for the third or fourth time to see what happens there at this time of day!

I'm definitely a lingerer!

Definately a lingerer. I know Chester is value for money, but after paying nearly £17 I want to spend as long as possible there. That, and it is always worth returning to an exhibit. (I kept revisiting Mercedes at Highlands).

It depends entirely on the day. If I'm travelling long distance I'd much prefer to see as many places and animals as possible (and I'm a brisk walker on my own, so Linton/Shepreth/Hamerton in a day was quiote straightforward). With a more local zoo (Twycross, Blackbrook, Chester) I tend to take my time more. Even then there are exceptions - I quite happily do Dudley and West Mids in a day, but in Berlin I'd likely allow two days for each zoo.

Typcially I do two loops per visit - a reasonably brisk first loop to get the lie of the land or spot changes since my last visit, and a second, slower, partial loop of the most interesting animals and exhibits.

I would never find myself in the situation of not getting part of the zoo done because I spent ages watching something though. Some species demand more time than others but if there's something I really want to spend a longer while with, that's what the second loop is for! (well, that and spotting awkward little hide-y things!)

But then I'm also atypical in that elephants, apes and big cats are not usually the main things I want to see!

Just wanted to add - I don't think the term 'True Zoochatter' is at all appropriate - it implies that anyone else is not a True Zoochatter - which is patently not the case.

Average Zoochatter maybe? Archetypal Zoochatter? But not True Zoochatter, please. If people want to list or to linger then power to them.

You need a day to get the best out of Hamerton. How could you do it in one third of a day!

Very thoroughly. Three circuits and scarcely a single no show. Seriously - I didn't even come close to feeling I was rushing it.

I can't imagine how you'd drag it out to a full day, to be honest! (great place though it is!)

EDIT: You can find my reviews for that day in this thread: http://www.zoochat.com/38/quiet-day-cambridgeshire-141940/

The only time I`ve spent all day at Hamerton is when I visited in December last year, when they had a little bit of snow on the ground (Like a good couple of inches) and it just wasn`t safe enough to do anything apart from take you time walking round the place.

Usually none of them.

As a rule, when I visit a new zoo I prepare to spend a whole day there to be sure I've seen everything. If I know it's the world's biggest zoo or a very small zoo, I might set off two days or a just a couple of hours.

I can be the lingerer in the ways, however:
1. If I still have some time left after going around the whole zoo, I either takes the route again (if I have much time left) or goes to see the more interesting animals again.
2. If I were on a holiday in for example London and I had a day with nothing to do, I could consider visiting London Zoo again.
However, I'm not the type of person who travel only to see zoos - I also like many other types of attractions.

I think many of us feel that way. As for myself, I think lions are interesting and especially if they are somewhat active, I could probably spend long time watching them. But when I'm visiting a zoo that I'm not sure I can visit again in a long time, I use very little time at the lions, because I know I have plenty of time to watch them when I get home.
