This is a major break-through in reproductive technologies. It needs to be shared between all regions maintaining Persian onagers (SSP, EEP, ARAZPA and the Middle East) to become fully effective.

In all fairness, there needs to be a global management programme for the species as most programmes from small founder genome and are in need of genetic additions. :(
 
If Columbus Zoo is taking over The Wilds, which is how I read the article, it can only be a good thing IMO. Columbus is one of the biggies, spurred in large part by their affilitiation with Jack Hanna, and if they can throw the same promotion and new exhibit design into The Wilds, it is sure to be a hit.

I have not yet been there myself, though I have wanted to for years, but I think once Columbus adds some new attractions or at least visitor amenities, it will definitely be worth a trip.
 
Sounds like it is slowly turning into a full-blown resort which will take multiple days to do everything! I like the direction they are headed.
 
My friends and I made a trip out to the Wilds yesterday. We took the open-air safari bus tour, but the horseback and zipline tours are up and running now to (have been for a couple months now). The Wilds seems to have a successful year with breeding as well. They had four baby Persian Onagers (at least, might have been a fifth one), two baby Fringed-Ear Oryx, a baby Rothschild's Giraffe, and a baby Grevy's Zebra.

Finally got a good look at the Indian Rhinoceros. Every other time I've been there, the rhinos have been hiding in dense brush. This time, all five were out in the open. Unfortunately, I had my camera on the wrong setting and lot of my pictures came out over-exposed. I'll post some of them from this trip and a trip I made back in May.

Also, in other news, the Wilds should be getting two more female dholes next year to encourage breeding in the back. Also, one of my friends on the trip did an internship at the Olgebay Good Zoo, and mentioned they had plans to send one of their male African Painted Dogs to the Wilds next year as well.

Edit: I forgot, the Przewalski's Horses had at least two babies as well, from what I saw.

A Southern White Rhinoceros calf was born on October 2nd. This is the second 4th-generation calf born at The Wilds.
 
I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet but there are now three ostriches at the Wilds. I also heard Jack Hanna wants to them to have some wolves.

What kind of wolves? Maned? Red? Mexican gray? And, I'm guessing that they'd be located at the Carnivore Center, right?
 
Nothing is planned, this is all speculation at this point but I would guess timber or grey is most likely, although I personally would love to see maned! Any yes, at the carnivore center.
 
While not directly related to the Wilds, there's been some tragic news from the area. Many of the animals from the nearby privately-owned Muskingum County Exotic Animal Farm were set loose yesterday evening (October 18th). Animals housed at the facility include bears, lions, cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, camels, and some primates, though the primates weren't among those that escaped.

Though the staff from the Wilds and the Columbus Zoo have offered their assistance in capturing the animals, so far it's been a massacre. Twenty five of the animals have already been killed; no reports of any of them being captured.

While I can understand the need to protect the people of Zanesville and the surrounding area, reports seem to suggest these animals were being killed even when they didn't pose a threat to anyone. Seems to me the deputies are being completely overzealous.

Edit: Just watched the press conference with the local sheriff. Apparently the facility was not currently housing giraffes and camels. They were just on the list of animals that had been their in the past.
 
I have some good news for you all heading into the new year; there were two Cheetah cubs born at the park recently! This year was also a successful year for the park's Southern White Rhinoceros breeding program with a total of four calves born at the park this year.
 
does anyone know if the the wilds dholes are on display? I wanna go when the park opens in May but it's going to be if the dholes are on display thks.
 
The dholes were on display when I visited in mid-October. However, they were extremely hard to see and I barely got a picture of part of ones head.
