Sharp-tailed Grouse (Tympanuchus phasianellus)

The range of this species extends across much of northern North America, from west-central Alaska in the west to northern Ontario and southwest Quebec in the east, and patchily south into north-central USA, extending through the Rockies as far south as south-central Colorado.

Six extant subspecies are currently recognised:

Greater Prairie-chicken (Tympanuchus cupido)

The range of this species represents a highly-fragmented distribution of disjunct populations; extending patchily throughout much of central USA from North Dakota and southwest Minnesotta in the north to northeast Colorado, Kansas and western Missouri in the south; in central Wisconsin ; in southern Illinois; and in coastal southeast Texas. This range represents the remnants of a much more continuous distribution prior to regional extirpation, which also extended throughout eastern USA.

Two extant subspecies are currently recognised; the nominate race was extirpated from the mainland in the late 19th century, with the last known example recorded from Martha's Vineyard in 1932.

Lesser Prairie-chicken (Tympanuchus pallidicinctus)

The range of this species is restricted to a patchy and fragmented distribution throughout south-central USA, from southeast Colorado and west-central Kansas in the north to northeast New Mexico and adjacent western Texas in the south.

In terms of the chachalacas there is a new species (Ortalis remota) that has only recently been described since 2017 (though it has long been suspected / hypothesized to exist).

Previously it was considered / argued to be merely a subspecies or race of the scaled chachalacha.

Taxonomy is still a bit debated, but it appears that all of the evidence is currently pointing towards it in fact being a species.

This species is incredibly rare (critically endangered) and occurs in the North-West of São Paulo state / upper Paraná River basin and probably in Mato Groso do Sol state too.

Not held within any zoos as far as I'm aware but considering the threats in the wild (overhunting and massive levels of habitat destruction) and its already rare status it could certainly do with an ex-situ programe like the Jacutinga and Alagoas currasow in zoos.

I think it could do with being in both Brazilian zoos and zoos abroad and this is another species that as a "little brown job" I think would be best kept at Jersey zoo. Especially considering that they already work with IPE roughly within the same region with the conservation of the black lion tamarin and reforestation of the Atlantic rainforest.
 
One minor edit to the thread has now taken place - although the more substantial edits I mentioned above still need to occur - as whilst seeking any photographs of subspecies-level Asian Short-clawed Otters I stumbled across the following shot, which I originally missed due to a misspelling in the species name.
