The Zoochat Photographic Guide To The New Felid Taxonomy

Earlier today, I was musing on the fact that between us, the membership of Zoochat have seen all but two of the cat species recognised in the new taxonomy proposed here - the odd ones out being the Bay Cat and Chinese Mountain Cat, which I believe none of us have seen. Moreover, almost all of the species seen have been photographed and posted to the Zoochat gallery; as such I thought it would be interesting to post a thread detailing the major points put forward in this new assessment of the Felidae, along with posting images of each species and, where appropriate, noteworthy subspecies or subspecies which this new taxonomy lumps together.

To start with, the following is the basic summary of the taxonomy proposed, in lineage order:

...the odd ones out being the Bay Cat and Chinese Mountain Cat, which I believe none of us have seen.
I think @baboon may have seen the latter.
Well, that would be a bonus if it is indeed the case! :)
I'm pretty sure that @baboon has, and regardless a quick look showed a photo by @MagicYoung (for later in your thread).

I know you'll probably get to finishing this list before I get to publishing the photos but I'm pretty sure I have serviceable photos of both Bobcat subspecies from my latest trip. I believe I've already posted one or two of Eastern on the forum in the past, just need to see if the Western is on my computer or my other memory card and I could send it to you early if you'd like.

I can always edit the posts to include the Western if need be :) though off the top of my head I think the known-subspecies individuals in Europe fall within this category.

I can think of one or two people whom I *know* have better photographs of certain taxa than have been uploaded to the gallery, but who have not gotten around to it :p @devilfish for one!

I did not realize there were subspecies animals in Europe but looking on ztl real quick I do see both Plzen and Berlin have Western :)

Still happy to see one of my photos on here, even if it's not of an adult male :p :)
