Attendance stagnant at Busch Gardens Africa, other theme parks - St. Petersburg Times

The list contains the attendance number for Disney's Animal Kingdom (a whopping 9.5 million visitors per year) plus Busch Gardens Tampa (4.4 million), along with all the rest of the major theme parks. Interesting that the average zoo in North America has been booming since the economic recession, while the higher-priced theme parks have been stagnant.

This is a larger list of the TEA/ERA list of the top US theme park attendance stats for 2008, combined with the zoos that would have made the list from snowleopard's list of average Attendance at American Zoos from his seperate thread. I have highlighted the zoos in bold, and the zoo theme parks that made both lists in bold italic:

Magic Kingdom, Lake Buena Vista, FL - 17.0 million
Disneyland, Anaheim, CA - 14.7 million
EPCOT, Lake Buena Vista, FL - 10.9 million
Disney's Hollywood Studios, Lake Buena Vista, FL - 9.6 million
Disney's Animal Kingdom, Orlando, FL - 9.5 million
Universal Studios Florida, Orlando, FL - 6.2 million
SeaWorld Florida, Orlando, FL - 5.9 million
Disney's California Adventure, Anaheim, CA - 5.6 million
Islands of Adventure, Orlando, FL - 5.3 million
Universal Studios Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA - 4.6 million
Busch Gardens Africa, Tampa, FL - 4.4 million
SeaWorld California, San Diego, CA - 4.1 million
Knott's Berry Farm, Buena Park, CA - 3.6 million
San Diego Zoo – 3.4 million
Cedar Point, Sandusky, OH - 3.2 million
Kings Island, Kings Island, OH - 3.1 million
Busch Gardens Europe, Williamsburg, VA - 3.1 million
Lincoln Park Zoo – 3 million (free zoo)
St. Louis Zoo – 3 million (free zoo)
Hershey Park, Hershey, PA - 2.8 million
Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, NJ - 2.8 million
Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, Iliinois - 2.7 million
National Zoo – 2.7 million (free zoo)

So in the world list of theme parks, San Diego Zoo would rank 26th if it were inserted...assuming no other non-theme park zoos in the world could be inserted before it. So far the British and Australian attendance lists have no greater numbers, and another thread with many European zoos has no greater numbers than SD.
