Things That Irritate You in Life

Bang! by AJR. Let it die already.

I went from liking this song; to tolerating this song; to hating it with a passion because it’s played five times a day on the radio.
So put your best face on everybody
Pretend you know this song everybody
Come hang (come hang)
Let’s go out with a bang!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
:p:p:p:p

Zoos posting soft news. No I don’t care that the meerkats got a pumpkin to celebrate Halloween; or that the lemurs enjoyed a breakfast of figs. If you haven’t got any news, you haven’t got any news. New Zealand’s zoos have just celebrated Maori Language Week, Zookeeper Awareness Week and Vet Nurse Day.

Sure its annoying to zoo nerds but its a nice reminder "Oh yeah we haven't been to the zoo in a while, we should go" and is pretty decent marketing strategy to keep peoples attention in the off-season like fall and winter.

Sadly I am a zoo nerd that likes my zoo news factual. I agree it’s a marketing strategy and no, I can’t blame them for trying to engage with the public. The general public have simple tastes when it comes to what they like at the zoo (they like their lions loud, their zebras stripy and their sea lions decent), but they pay the bills and therefore the zoo will do well to cater to them. :p

I have to say, again, I like this idea for a thread and it would be useful for me to vent and blow off steam!

Wow, there are quite a number of things that really irritate me and get under my skin... let me start with one.

When people say that they believe in or support certain things, but seem unwilling and un-interested in putting in the necessary effort and making the necessary sacrifices to achieve these things and get them done. Adding to that, when people say that they are going to do something and then they don't do it.

On that note, this reminds me of something my third grade teacher told me and it stuck with me. She said, "I don't want to hear excuses, I want to see results". That quote definitely comes up when thinking about these irritating triggers mentioned above.

Of course it’s a good idea. After all, I thought of it. :p

Yes, whether it’s a business that fails to get back to you in three working days like their auto-reply promises or a flaky friend who last minute cancels 2/3 of the time you make arrangements to meet, these people are a total waste of time.

Growing up, I always saw people posting on social media how they had a dad who would promise to do something with them and then repeatedly let them down. I’ve therefore always made sure to keep a promise to do something with my kids no matter what comes up.

I do this once in a blue moon, and it's seldom because I decide not to last minute, I'm just horrible at planning and scheduling.

I only enjoy this sort of news/updates when they are just limited to a short video or image on the zoo's Twitter page.

I’m a huge fan of last minute/short notice plans e.g. contacting friends and asking if they wanna do something that day or the next. I usually find the busiest people are the best at time management e.g. “Oh today, I’m doing X, Y and Z - but if we can meet here instead of there and I push Z back an hour, that can totally work!”

The most irritating are the ones who have to have everything planned to the most minute detail six weeks ahead and are allergic to spontaneity.

This makes me feel incredibly old. I still think of social media as something that's been around for a couple of years or so.

Another thing that really irritates me to the point that it made me lose my temper on a few occasions is when people jump to conclusions and take things out of context, especially when I can't get a word in edge-wise. Adding to that, hypocrisy and duplicity can really get my blood boiling!

Another thing that really irritates me, also to the point that it has made me lose my temper is people that have little to no concept of boundaries. It is like no matter how many times or in how much detail you articulate your position/point of view and dissent to their proposal, they are very insistent and don't take no for an answer. I just hate dealing with these types of people! On that note, people with controlling and domineering personalities really get under my skin. Regarding controlling and domineering people, I have a story about that...

In April of 2018 there was a time I was at Petco in Hemet, Riverside County, California purchasing mulch bedding for my snakes. I had 1.0 Calabar burrowing boa (Calabaria reinhardti) and 0.1 Solomon Islands ground boa (Candoia paulsoni tasmai). I met a guy there that was telling me that he had a snake collection of his own, consisting predominantly of Ball pythons (Python regius), but when he was married, his wife made him get rid of his snakes and she constantly wined and complained about him spending too much time with his saltwater fish tank. I was happy for him that he didn't have a ring on any of his fingers any longer. Despite not being with that woman anymore, I have to say that I felt sorry for him. What he went through actually struck a chord with me... I have to say, if I had girlfriend that gave me that kind of attitude, I would break up with her ASAP, and if I had a fiance that gave me that kind of attitude, I would call off the engagement pronto! If I had a wife give me that kind of attitude, I would file for divorce on day one. Again, people with controlling and domineering personalities really get under my skin, and me partnering with one would be a recipe for disaster, no matter how cute, pretty, or hot she might be. As my uncle once said to me, no amount of cuteness is worth putting up with crap. When it targets my interests in zoology, paleontology, and the natural sciences and my hobbies that correlate with these interests, I have zero tolerance!

Ya it’s more just autocorrect in itself.

I can relate to that, especially when I am trying to type up scientific names of animals. Or even common names that are unfamiliar to most people. For example, when I type Takin or Dik-Dik, there tends to be a red line underneath. For the former, my autocorrect changes it to or at least suggests the word Taking and for the latter, when I right click on the word, it suggests "Delete repeated word."

Haha wow. If you think that’s bad, you should see the latest generation coming through. We don’t give our kids toys to keep them occupied in a store, we hand them a device - and when I say kids, I’m talking 12 months plus.

My parents bought me toys I have like at least 50 (maybe more) elephant toys just for elephants and a whole lot more for other species
