Things That Irritate You in Life

I think something of a problem is that a number of zoos don't have an animal for all 26 letters - and so in the few instances a video is made of animals ABC in the Zoo sometimes compromise is to be made.

Though I will say ... as for A - Z of wild animals I recall there was a video released on DVD and VHS that introduced 26 different animals with a mixture of commonly-known [i.e. elephant; lion; penguin etc.] and lesser-known [i.e. armadillo; gibbon; kiwi] animals - all of which have their own song. It also has some messages of ecology - including a song about hyaenas that doesn't ultimately villify the animals ! It was produced by Partridge Films in 1998, if that helps in looking for it. I believe it may be available to buy in DVD format - though it also exists on YouTube.
I hope that helps !

I also love that video. A lot of unknown animals like Nudibranchs was mentioned. It's a great balance between the well known and not known animals there.

Coming to some unpleasant realizations and having to make some though choices with regards to the zoo hobby.

Please expand.

Just to put everyone's mind at ease, I am not leaving or anything.

I am "just" questioning if and how to continue with the speculative zoo design part of the hobby, which has been frustrating me lately.

I apologize for posting some stuff I should have thought about more earlier today. I had a pretty poor day today.

Never apologise for having a rough day, just remember there are people such as myself who know what anxiety and autism are like first-hand and who are happy to chat and be vented to when a rough day occurs.

In other words, next time send me a PM as the first course of action :)

I will try to remember this.

When I am having a rough time the stuff that could really help unfortunately doesn't always come to my mind for a while. I also don't like to bother people too much.

Right now, given that I still like the speculative zoo design stuff, I am thinking about how I can make changes and improvements. But there is no guarantee yet that I will be able to complete further projects.

Rest assured, at least, that if your projects didn't fit the new regulations we'd have already spoken to you about it - they've been fine thus far :)

It irritates me that I can't deal with change very well.
Which then makes me come accross selfish, which I'm really not. Just don't know how to handle it.

Not having the energy to get anything done that I want to do.

Feeling dissatisfied, frustrated and like I'm just not doing good enough when I do actually try to do anything or actually get anything done.

I'm sorry if this is more venting than anything else, but I'm just upset. Today I had a major mental health setback - my first truly bad day and first major meltdown in months, as well as some ways of thinking I hadn't had for months either. I also made a couple of fairly major errors lately that are weighing on my mind. I am very worried, afraid this will happen again and I don't really know where to go from here, or what it will mean for the continuation of the zoo hobby.

The one thing that I do know is that any zoo road trips will not be happening this year. Maybe I can still salvage some day trips, but I'm not sure right now.

Also, I have been trying to change some things, like some of my bad habits, but that all seems to not really be working out lately.

@KevinB you have habits, not bad habits, so dust that off for starters now.

I have read a few of your posts over time and you are a top guy in my opinion, try to stop looking at the negative side of stuff and be more less bothered about stuff. You want an example, I will show you one

Remember, Kevin's cup at very worst is still half full of great things.

Thank you.

I want to say that Tuesday's post was made when I was still too much in the heat of things (as I sometimes tend to do). I have since recognized that I made some mistakes and have some things that I need to work on, but that I should not put undue punishment or pressure on myself. I am however going to try my best to fix and improve some things that I do need to work on.

AI-generated art. I see it a lot on Instagram, and a lot of people think it's cool, but I really don't like it, since I've heard that it uses other people's art without their permission. I've also seen AI-generated art associated with NFT's, which is just a pretty terrible combo.
Not really. AI art models are trained on many thousands of images, which some argue is a breach of copyright. At the same time though, all humans are inspired by art they've seen before, so I don't really see the difference. Sure, you can request art "in the style" of a certain artist, but you could do that from any human, too.

Everything has been associated with NFTs now, AI art is not a special case. The AZA even has official NFTs.

Even aside from the copyright issues, it just feels to me like it massively devalues art, and artists. Technology is a wonderful thing but I don't want paintings (or novels or movies) that have been put together on an algorithm. I want human creativity and skill in these things.

Some jobs are definitely suited to being automated. Art is not one, any more than social work, than teaching - even than professional sport.

And no organisation priding itself on conservation should be anywhere near NFTs to my mind. Utterly pointless and wasteful energy usage when it mostly is preserving anonymous web accounts' notional 'ownerships' of a JPG file every else can see anyway.

Oh yes it does. Artists have spotted details from their work in AI work. Copyright protected work has been found in the training images. There are a few different lawsuits on copyright infringement going on.
Also humans are inspired and create their own work based off of things they've seen - AI is more or less swiping details from its training images. That's why it needs training images, it can't just create out of nothing.

That's a fair take, I just simply don't agree that it's a breach of copyright or that it's stealing images. But regardless of opinions, it's kind of hard to get rid of technology we already have.

Every artist I know is furious with AI art and the companies creating the platform. There are confirmed reports of copyrighted and stolen works being used, and issues with companies not being forefront with the fact they're distributing works to AI use. Several companies have already fired artists and gone to using AI so they don't have to pay salary. It's going over really really badly as a whole.

But regardless of opinions, it's kind of hard to get rid of technology we already have.

One, just because we have it doesn't mean it's a good thing that should be used.
Two, given I can remember when there were more cassette tapes and vhs tapes than DVDs and CDs, to the point where now most laptops don't even have cd players anymore I kind of disagree with the point in general. Tech marches on at a rather crazy rate and relatively little is around for all that long.
