Those We Have Known....

See my posting on Longleat News and the future#2, post number 28, then take a look at the support for Bobby and Moira Roberts petition website,January 23rd 2012, signiture and comment number 488 from "Javan Rhino", signiture and comment number 489 on Januart 23rd 2012 by"Dennis Tanzaro"

That's odd - those are our two posts from the longleat thread alright but I haven't written them on there, and certainly not as recently as last week!

I don't see what I'm supposed to have done wrong here, but I can only give you my word that I haven't put that signature on there

For the record, here are links to the two threads:

Well if you didn't put it on, I certainly did not, then somebody has copied our postings to put on this petition, could they not make a comment for themselves rather than just copy other people's words?

My sentiments exactly!!!

I have flagged the post that was supposedly made by 'Javan Rhino.' I doubt anything will come of it though since they likely won't be able to tell it's plagerised.

I haven't flagged your post as it's not my place to :)

I think it would be best to leave it at that, The Roberts have enough on their plate at the moment, wonder if we are familiar with the person who put this on?,if you are reading this, you have been caught out!

Thanks for pointing it out, I would never have known that was there if you hadn't said about it.

And yup, I agree that this is the place to draw the line and take this topic back to it's original point :)

Thanks Sooty for starting this thread. Just a couple of days ago I was wondering why I haven't seen Baldur posting in ages. Good to hear that he and the several legendary zoochatters mentioned are well. Hope they find that spark and return to the forum one day. The diversity of views is what makes Zoochat interesting.

Funnily enough, I also miss Patrick/Phoenix and Sun Wukong, even though I had to ban them from the site. I found their contributions to be generally excellent - when they weren't being abusive to other members. Banning them certainly wasn't a decision I made lightly, but one I felt I had to make for the future of the site.

Other people from Australia I miss:

  • MARK (disappeared)
  • Zoo_Boy (got a job in the industry)
  • ZooPro (not sure? possibly just got fed up?)
  • Jarkari (hasn't been on since November - anyone know him and can follow up?)
  • dragon(ele)nerd (hasn't been on since early December?)

it's really a shame for an intelligent non-bunny-hugger site dedicated to zoos, that when members gain employment at a zoo they very often are required to stop posting! I understand the reason zoos don't want an official presence on here, because while it would certainly be in their best interests to be here, they would get deluged with awkward questions they can't openly answer (!), but it really is unfortunate. I find Australasian zoos tend to be more open to the site (at least the smaller and privately-owned ones) even to the extent that zoo owners are on here as members. I guess I'm fortunate too that nowhere I've worked has cared if I post on here or not, so long as I'm sensible and don't post non-public information.

that statement reminds me of Cuvier's Rash Dictum of the 19th century, to wit "there is little hope of discovering new species of large quadrupeds"......

Or the 19th century statement "everything that can be invented, has been invented"...

Dan. Posted last August to say he had been unwell, but would be back. He was a brilliant contributor, who had a very clear sense of what he believed and argued for it passionately. I sincerely hope he is well, and would be very grateful for any news on this score.
Dan just appeared online, so at least he's alive still!!

Has Stefka left the site?. She was a very regular and interesting poster and I looked forward to her regular updates and photos re the Irish zoos.

I have noticed her absence too. Apparantely, her last activity was 5 hours ago according to her profile, but she has not posted in months.

I miss Stefka. She was a very kind, fun member. At least we know she's still dropping in from time to time.
