to all new, existing and future forum members, particularly Aussies, can we observe the following rules.
thy shall not....
complain about inbred antelope and deer populations, or suggest importing new animals without recognising the fact that this cant happen due to quarantine
thy shall not...
complain about Australian zoos having a really diverse exotic animal range without recognising restrictions of space and low founder stock
thy shall not....
suggest ridiculous things like importing okapi, or killer whales, or hobbits, or albino leppers, or american zoo directors
thy shall not...
(this is a joke) talk about elephants. because some forum members are all elephanted out
thy shall not post more than 10 one sentence comments in a day

and finally thy shall not always agree with other forum members, as arguments are what makes this forum interesting. welcome everyone:D

I like your commandments Glyn. How long were you thinking of them for?

What's wrong with united??!!?? #glory glory man united
Because they are like Rats you are never more than 5 foot away,from one and over 90% of them have never seen the club play,apart from watching a game on the telly,which to me is nothing more than a glory hunter!

For the record I'm no glory hunter. Even though I live in Scotland I've still seen 3games. Once I travelled all the way down to Manchester to see a home game in the champions league against bursaspor. And twice when they've travelled up here, to Aberdeen, for friendlies.(the second time aberdeen won!).

Wow a whole 3 games that's 50% more than the rest of most of 10% that have seen them play:p

But then a true fan at somepoint will have had a season ticket for the club they support,but then seeing as I'm not a football fan,given that I'm a life long Aston Villa fan,and ex-season ticket holder from the early 90's:o

But then a true fan at somepoint will have had a season ticket for the club they support

To be fair, I'm not sure that logic works:

1. Followed through to it's conclusion it means that no club can have more than its stadium's capacity of "true fans";
2. You can be a fan and/or staunch supporter of something without being local or having personal connection/involvement (for instance I'm sure many of us on ZooChat are fans of zoos worldwide we may never get a chance to visit);
3. If you're a football fan outside Europe (where arguably the best football is) why shouldn't you be able to admire/support a team in the best leagues in the world because it's impractical to see them.

That said there is a serious distinction between those that choose to support Manchester United because they admire their history and style of play (and have done over a number of years) and those who follow them because they're successful and don't really show that much interest from game to game. Let's face it if you were born in (say) Plymouth wouldn't it be a little more interesting to follow someone other than Argyle?:D

'True fan' or 'real fan' just tend to be terms used to create a clique or inner circle that can look down on people who don't know the 1978 second-choice goalkeeper or the name of the first giraffe calf born in the 1960s or every subspecies of every species of goat or all the uncredited supporting cast of episode three of series eight or who was originally asked to direct the third movie. Boo to the whole idea! If you like it a lot, you're a fan. End of. :p

And if you do know all those things - power to you! If you don't, that's fine too.

(sorry zg - you chose words that set me off! 'Apologist' is another - used passive-aggressively (particularly on the Internet) as 'person who supports or likes something I don't and is therefore wrong and their opinion can be totally dismissed and I don't have to bother explaining why they're wrong they just are and should be ashamed of themselves'.)

@ Maguari Point taken,but atleast being a Villa fan I can never be likened to Rat as there will never be enough of us,that said there probably isn't enough of us to fill Old Trafford once:p
