Thanks so much for all the advice! I’ve got more of a rough plan to get round (depending which entrance I end up using) and if nothing’s too difficult to find then that makes things easier. I must say, the long opening hours give a sense of encouragement.
 
Birth of 1 Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby.

Does anyone know what happened to the Transcaspian urials? According to ZTL, all remaining 7 animals died this year.

The first thing that comes to mind is Foot-and-mouth disease, but I really hope that's not the case.

In September, I saw two of them in the holding pens at the kulan paddock. It was a lucky glance. I can't add much else to the topic, but it would be a shame to see them leave the collection.

Well, for now they are gone. And who knows what the Tierpark plans. I guess we have to wait and see (as always).

By the way: The park also received a new species: 1,0 Lesser Kudu arrived from Dvur Kralove, Czech Republic. Apparently, it can already be seen and even got an official sign. But I don't know, where it can be found.
 
2 Old World White Pelicans and 1 American White Pelican have hatched.

Die Verbreitung des Silberfasans umfasst weite Teile Südostasiens. Silberfasane leben in lichten Wäldern von Mittelgebirgen bis in Höhen von über 2000 m. Die Wälder können sowohl Laub- als auch Mischwälder sein. Die Henne legt die Eier in eine einfache Erdmulde, die im Schutz von Büschen errichtet wird. Sie legt zwischen 6 und 8 rosacremefarbene Eier, die sie innerhalb von 26 Tagen ausgebrütet. Hello - I’m taking my daughter to Berlin for her birthday in early January - the last time we went we saw Berlin Zoo. Unfortunately not time to do both, but I wanted to check whether the Tierpark would be a good visit for that time of year, or better to leave for another time. She’s 11 and a good walker and very keen on zoos!

I really love the Tierpark but I find it much more enjoyable from late spring to fall (when everything is green) with the many large outside exhibits, whereas the zoo has many attractions for any weather. Another aspect is the ongoing construction process at the elephant building which hopefully will be completed some time in 2026. So while it definitely is an awesome zoo all year around, I would still recommend leaving it for another season and may be a year or two later.

100%, but that's not to say it's not to be enjoyed in midwinter of course. I visited in early January 2024, with temperatures dipping to a somewhat chilly -12C and considerable snowfall, and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Of course, you'll probably be moving between the majority buildings for warmth, but the ungulates were all very active and with the exception of a handful of predators, I ticked off essentially the entire zoo.

I also think everyone should try to visit Himalaya in that weather at least once, as it turned what is already a favourite section of mine into an entirely different experience altogether.

The zoo is certainly better equipped for that weather and time of year, but provided you wrap up well the Tierpark is also fantastic if you aren't able to visit another time.

Many thanks - really helpful replies! The new rhino house was still under construction in Berlin Zoo last time we went so perhaps leave the Tierpark for another time - maybe check the weather forecast first. If there was snow Himalaya would be incredible

The Lesser Kudu lives right next to the gerenuks and sometimes also comes out now. Zootierliste still only lists 1,0 speciman but I still hope there will be at least one more to come.

Also, there are some new pictures from inside the elephant building. According to the architect they arrived at the stage of interior decoration (he compared it to a normal home which now is to receive wallpapers etc). Looking at the Pictures, this sounds somewhat optimistic. But I guess he should know better than me and I very much welcome any good news on this project. These are the pictures anyway:

And If anyone visits after June 20th they now even can book a guided tour for 36 Euro and see for themselves (but if you don't happen to speak German, you only can listen in via Google Translate etc...)

I read somewhere that the elephanthouse will also be home to honey badgers. Is that still the plan and which other animals are going to be housed there?
 
 
ZTL is right. Zoo Berlin used to house a bunch of small monkeys in the Monkey House, but when I visited in april, all their enclosures had been merged into one. The only species left is the pygmy marmoset.

Larger species have recently been phased out as well, namely mandrills and toque macaques.

Less species means more space for those that remain, so I understand the decision.

Tierpark hasn't kept any marmosets or tamarins in the recent past.
