At Tierpark Chemnitz no less then 5 different subspecies of Fire salamanders are kept. Now the breeding of one of them has been again succesfull and several young of the Oviedo fire salamander have been born - this subspecies is viviparous.
 
On the 25th of April a male Kulan (Equus hemionus kulan) arrived from Zoo Košice, where he was born on the 25th of May 2017.

On the 26th of April male Lowland anoa (Bubalus depressicornis) Palu arrived from Zoo Berlin. The zoo now has 2 male lowland anoas both over 20 years old and brothers from each other. This species if not mentioned in the masterplan of Tierpark Chemnitz, most likely they will be the last Anoas at the zoo.

In May a new species arrived at the zoo, namely 18 Geladas (Theropithecus gelada), they came from Naturzoo Rheine.

On the 23rd of May the zoo received a pair of Eurasian cranes (Grus grus grus) from Kranichschutz Deutschland, this is a new species for the zoo.

Earlier this month 2 Barnacle geese (Branta leucopsis) hatched.

In May 3 Kuban turs (Capra caucasica) were born, a male and 2 females. The group now consists of 11 animals.
