On Feb. 28 a Indian crested porcupine was born at Tierpark Cottbus .

Mid-december 3 Australian pelicans hatched at Tierpark Cottbus. Cottbus is one of only 3 collections in Europe breeding this species and had its first breeding-succes 2011.

5 Saddle-billed storks hatched this year. Since the first European breeding of this species in 2012, the breeding pair raised offspring every year. This shows that Saddle-billed storks can be bred reliably under the right circumstances.

Like in 2018, in 2019 again 5 chicks were parent-raised ( with a little help of the keepers ). Since 2012, when Cottbus archieved the European first-breeding, 31 chicks have hatched at this Zoo .

Plans have been revealed for a new Elephant house which will be 960 square meters. Costs are estimated at little under 2 million euros and it should be ready 2020-21.

It is an OR, not an AND, so they will have capacity for 4 elephants in the future and will either keep older females or young males.

The new house will have a 343 m2 main area for the elephants + 75 m2 swimming pool + 4 separate boxes.
