A relative unknown zoo with a large collection of rodents. One of them is the Chacoan cavy from which a pair was obtained in 2012. During 2013 a second female was obtained and this year the first succes was archived, the first young have been born !

There will be a short report on this zoo in the next-but-one issue of Zoo Grapevine - the journal of the Independent Zoo Enthusiasts' Society.

It is an excellent little place, just a few miles from Magdeburg in what is an extraordinary hot spot for zoos.

Certainly next time I am in the north of Germany I intend to revisit Magdeburg, and get a first visit in to Schönebeck.

New species at Schönebeck, from Zoo Prague Cuban hutias ( Capromys pilorides were recieved .

Lowland pacas are doing realy well at this small zoo. Young number 21 and 22 have been born !

It's a nice collection of relatively obscure species, apart from a few domestics. There are no ABCs, not even meerkats, according to ZTL. I hope it does well for going against the usual ethos of zoos that feel they must have certain species.

Recently the 12-year old female Lowland paca (Cuniculus paca) Lila was euthanised.

At least three were born, actually - per my visit a few weeks ago. The article you linked even says multiple were born

Recently a male Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) arrived from Zoo Aschersleben.

Recently a pair of Coal tits (Periparus ater ater) arrived, making Schönebeck, apart from a holder in Russia, the only holder of this species in Europe (According to ZTL).

In June 2 male Greater grisons (Galictis vittata) arrived from Dierenpark Zie-Zoo. Which marks the return of this species to Schönebeck and Germany!

At the end of July a Plains viscacha (Lagostomus maximus) was born!
