A relative unknown zoo with a large collection of rodents. One of them is the Chacoan cavy from which a pair was obtained in 2012. During 2013 a second female was obtained and this year the first succes was archived, the first young have been born :) !

There will be a short report on this zoo in the next-but-one issue of Zoo Grapevine - the journal of the Independent Zoo Enthusiasts' Society.

It is an excellent little place, just a few miles from Magdeburg in what is an extraordinary hot spot for zoos.

Certainly next time I am in the north of Germany I intend to revisit Magdeburg, and get a first visit in to Schönebeck.

It's a nice collection of relatively obscure species, apart from a few domestics. There are no ABCs, not even meerkats, according to ZTL. I hope it does well for going against the usual ethos of zoos that feel they must have certain species.
