Mogo Wildlife Park tiger cubs at Mogo

So Lari is a full-brother of Ramalon?

If so, seven cubs this year from that line means neither Lari nor Ramalon are likely to breed again any time soon?

Congrats to Mogo.

Lari is a full brother and another brother (whose name I forget) was a breeder at Taronga.
Lari also has three cubs now at Australia Zoo but I don't think they are pure sumatran. (I could be wrong).

The Australia Zoo cubs are pure. Their mother was Malu (ex-Auckland/ex-Wellington) and Lari's brother Juara was a breeder at Taronga but now resides at Western Plains.

They might be pure but Mogo was NOT meant to breed those cubs for Australia Zoo.

I'm not sure. I was doing work experience on Carnies at Taronga at the time. There were a few angry keepers and all they said to me was that they were bred against the recs.

Would that be because Lari and Malu were closely related?

Yes, Lari and Malu are first cosuins (their fathers are twin brothers). That's interesting to know that the third cub from Shiva and Seletan's 1995 litter is called Lari. I heard he was called Dougall after originally being given an indonesian name. I wonder if he gets confused at these constant name changes.

I can't remember the exact details but Lari was renamed Dougall in honour of someone who had raised money for the zoo to build an exhibit for the tiger.

Animals in zoos often have two names. A public name and a name the staff go by. Sometimes, but not always, this is done for conditioning as short names names with fewer syllables are easier to say and recognize for the staff and animals. For example mininewah is a good american Indian name but not very good for conditioning purposes. Just an example

Also most zoos don't want animals responding to their name being called out by members of the public.

Especilly with the constnt whistling and clling they lredy hve to put up with. I often hear people whistling at maned wolves and wild dogs. If you want to see a carnie move, push over a kid and make it cry.
