Colchester Zoo Tiger Incident

I have yet to visit Colchester zoo, but from the comments on here, and from the website, it sounds like a great facility! I was pleased to hear about the arrival of the amur leopards in 2006/7, i remember seeing the young female amur 'Milena' on the news when she was born at Marwell. Does anyone know if Milena & Dende are to be bred this year?...

Firstly, just in case there's any lingering doubt, Sasha was alive and well as of 4pm yesterday afternoon !

Secondly, I don't know about that, but there are plans afoot to significantly improve the amur leopard enclosure, beginning next month.

See here for details ..... breeding is definitely the intention but I don't know when:

Colchester is well worth a visit. Like most zoos, there are areas which (IMO) could be better, but they always seem to be developing or improving something and you most definitely get the feeling that improvement is an ongoing project.

Phew, I am relieved to hear that Sasha hasn't died - as we have just lost a much loved family cat on Thursday, and my 5 year old daughter is already very upset (as am I). I think another death of an animal she is very fond of would have been very hard on her. Sasha is a huge favourite of hers (after Rajang) - though she insists on calling him Tiggy.

im so very sorry to hear about your cat
