Tiger/Lion Cub Watch

Hi Guys & Girls

I've only just found this site an i'm really enjoying everyones enthusiasm and contributions to threads dedicated to the Zoos, Gardens, Parks and Reserves in this country.

I'm desperate this year to capture photographs of young Lion and Tiger cubs, but i'm really struggling to scour through all the individual threads looking for news on cubs.

If it's not too much to ask, could people post news of expected little'ns, or newborns in here when they're discovered. I'm following the parks on Twitter and FB hoping to catch the announcements but you guys are far more on the pulse :)

Thanks

Rob

Several collections bred Tiger and Lion cubs in 2011, I've compiled a list of all births in 2011:

Sumatran Tigers
2.0 at WHF
0.3.1 at Chester (two different litters, the 0.0.1 was a single cub, 0.1 died in January)

Amur Tigers
No cubs born in 2011

African Lions
3.7 at Longleat
5.1 at Knowsley

Asian Lions
0.2 at London

Hope this helps. :)

stupid question but what zoo does WHF stand for?

Sorry should of made that a bit clearer. As Javan Rhino has said yes it is the Wildlife Heritage Foundation, which is a collection specializing in cats. They currently hold the following:

African tawny Lions
African white Lion
Amur Leopards
Amur Tigers
Black Leopard
Cheetah
Clouded Leopards
Eurasian Lynx
Hybrid tigers [Zoo generic]
Jaguars
North Chinese Leopard
Pallas Cat
Pumas
Serval
Snow Leopards
Sumatran Tigers

It is a nice collection although they are planning to acquire two female white lions to breed with there current male 'Themba'.

Wildlife Heritage Foundation is based in Kent and has a sister park in Broxbourne, Paradise Wildlife Park.

Breeding records:
They have bred Amur Leopards, Pallas Cats and Sumatran Tigers.

Sumatran Tigers
2008 2.0 Bawa and Asu
2011 2.0 Toba and Kuba

Amur Leopards
2008 2.0 Artem and Argun

I think the Amur Leopards are Artem and Argun.

Hi Rob,

It is a bit of a treck for you from Maidenhead, but two places close together that currrently have young cubs are Chester (2 Sumatran tiger cubs) and Knowsley (3 African lion cubs). Chester Zoo and Knowsley Safari Park, are only about 30 miles from each other, so that could be an option for you to do both places in 2 days before heading back down the road.
