Toddy and Zoos.dk

Hi Toddy.
It's me Tobias from MSN.

I can write reviews from Helsinki Zoo, Furuvik and Skånes Djurpark in English, if it's OK?

:)

Reviews from the two Danish birdparks have just been added to Zoos.dk in English

It's the North Zealand Birdpark and Frydenlund Birdpark

Update

The English zoo-review section has been updated with 8 new reviews from Denmark, Sweden and England. The latter are written by Swedish Zoo Fan and Writhedhornbill here from the ZooBeat forums.

I have a dream ;). I am hoping that the English section of my site will expand to be more of a joined project, including zoofans from around the world. I think that it would be a great way to share experiences, and share reviews from all around the world.

Therefore, I would like to repeat my request from page 2 of this thread. I am looking for more writers for the site. Anybody interested? Your job would be to write reviews/descriptions from zoos you have visited, and provide pictures for them as well. You will of course be credited for all the articles and photos you provide.

If you are interested and/or want to know more, just ask in this thread or e-mail me on

Can anyone tell me about the Nordens ark collection, i have an interest in this park as i believe our very own highland wildlife park in Scotland now seems to be modelling itself on this collection with a mix of indigenous wildlife and exotics based on the tundra/mountain habitat theme.

Norderns Ark is the most amazing wildlife park i have ever seen, even though it's not all swedish animals they keep. Their focus is endangerede species, and thy are good at promoting conservation. They keep native animals from Europe and North/Central Asia, as well as a few species from South American (maned wolves, pudus and some parrots).

The whole park is built around a small fjëld (Swedish mountain), and is placed in the possibly most beautifull landscape imaginable. The walk around the zoo is a one way tour that takes you around the mountain and back to the entrance. All the animals have fantastic enclosures, with lots of space and natural forest. What could be better for a snow leopard, than an actual mountan side? Or an actual forest for the grey wolves or wolverines? The path varies from dirt path to wooden boardwalk.

The park has also been expanded with a large field, where Nordens Ark has built a very modern farm/childrens' zoo. When they say they focus on endangered animals, they also mean old types of native farm animals that have almost dissapeared. That mean that you can also see a large number of cultural breeds of cows, pigs, horses, goats, sheep and such. It is actually very interesting, and i never thought that i would spend that much time in the Children's Zoo ;)

The most interesting species at Nordens Ark are:

Amur tiger
Amur leopard
Snow leopard
Amur cat
European wild cat
European lynx
Red panda
Wolverine
Grey wolf
Maned wolf
European otter
Przewalski wild horse
Chamois
Himalaya tahr
Mountain goat
Markhor
European forest reindeer
Chilean pudu

They also have many birds, including woodpeckers, owls and eagles.

Hope this helps

Yes, it says so on their website. I guess i just forgot to include it on the list ;)

Thanks for the info m8, looking at the species list i imagine thats where our hwp will be in a few years, although at the moment they have Bactrian wapiti, Chinese grey goral, bharal, Japanese macaque, kiang and others including a magnificent breeding programme for capercaillie. Animals that will be arriving soon will be red panda, Amur tiger, Mishmi takin and waldrapp ibis.

I've heard that Nordens Ark have waldrapp ibis now. And a new wetlands exhibit. I will try to go there next year so i can see if it's true.

Thanks for putting my review up on the site, Toddy.

I can also write a review of Helsinki Zoo if it's OK, Toddy...:)

San diego zoo
Blackbrook
Jersey zoo
Edinburgh zoo
Zurich zoo
Basel zoo

I could also do one for Antwerp and Parc Pardisio, but I haven't been since 2003, so it's quite a bit out of date

I've also finished a London Review and Toddy will upload that when he's ready.

I visited Antwerpen in 2006, so i can do the review from there. But it would be nice if you could do the one for Parc Paradisio. The London review is comming soon ;)

That would be great! You can see how the reviews should look on my site. If you could provide some photos also, that would be good. It should be about 10-12 photos that you think represents the park. Thanks :)

I'll get started on it then!:)

I've had a read of the site to understand it (I love the photo of the gorilla on the Danish Zoo index!;) )

When I'm finished, how do you want me to send you the review?
