Toledo Zoo Toledo Zoo and Aquarium News 2024

I was looking at the renderings for the Toledo Zoo’s Masterplan and in the new carnivore attraction that I assume will be the future home for the zoo’s tigers. I saw an exhibit in the back that looks like it could be for an animal like a fishing cat or a snow leopard.
I just went back through the old Toledo Zoo News forums and I found the original plan for the carnivore exhibit that the zoo is planning on building. It would have originally been home to the zoo’s tigers along with the zoo’s grizzly and Kodiak bears.

The exhibit would have a “museum-like” setting to include informational stands about the animals and their life in the wild, according to event organizers.

It would’ve taken up the current employee parking lot that is slated to be used for the current new carnivore exhibit. The construction was supposed to start in November of 2020 and finish in may of 2023.

I wondered why the bears were in the zoo’s rendering for this exhibit, while having a separate exhibit for them in the master plan. My guess is that those renderings were older than the current plan, but again just my guess.

I have talked with a zoo employee and I was told that they are trying to buy land from residents on Spencer Street. I haven’t heard if they have any success but I’m hoping to get some news in the near future.

Interesting, I thought something similar already happened last year. It seems I've missed my chance for a little while, the good news being Tuatara are very long-lived and Perentie will be nice additions.

Well, now I kind of wish I had scheduled my potential Toledo Zoo trip for this winter after all instead of placing it as a maybe for next year... then again, I might've missed Omaha then.

Toledo Zoo has always had a quite impressive herp collection. The new project will surely see it progress even further. Very chuffed ... here about the new development coming up for 2026!!!!

Planning a visit tomorrow, which will mean the long awaited end to my species list (aquarium, museum, barnyard, and nature’s neighborhood). I will also provide a review and species list of the Reptile House and another thread as a way to conclude my species list.
