Come take flight with us!

Join us in 2014 for a year-long celebration of flight.

2014 is the year of flight at the Toledo Zoo, with cool experiences that bring you closer to everything that flies—from butterflies and birds to reptiles (yes, reptiles!).

Free-flight butterflies

Opens Friday, January 17, 2014
Great Hall in the Museum of Science

Butterflies flutter by as you walk through this free-flight exhibit, and it’s free with regular Zoo admission, only through Sunday, March 2—don’t miss them!

Flying reptiles

Opens Saturday, March 8, 2014
Reptile House

See the animals whose ancestors ruled the sky – long before birds existed.

Soar and Explore

Saturday & Sunday, April 5 - 6
From professional kites to rocket science, experience all the ways humans have learned to take flight. Challenger Learning Center, Imagination Station and more flight experts will share hands-on fun, plus our own Education staff presents the Science of Flight show at our Indoor Theatre.

Science of Flight Show
(Two Scheduled weekends):
Saturday & Sunday, March 8 - 9
Saturday & Sunday, April 5 - 6

This interactive show in the Zoo’s Indoor Theatre entertains and educates. Guests learn how animals fly by watching one of our Zoo scientists perform fun and wild experiments comparing animal flight with that of machines.

Penguin Beach
Opening May 23, 2014
Penguins may not be able to fly through the air, but wait until you see them fly underwater! Penguin Beach, right next to the Aquarium, brings you closer to them than you’ve ever been. Check out the new “wall of water” underwater viewing and even walk right through their exhibit.

Avian supermodels

Opening May 23, 2014
A flock of flamingos arrives at the Zoo, with a whole new Caribbean beat that feels like you’re at a tropical island. Watch them grow from fluffy chicks to graceful adults!

Finch feeding
Opening May 23, 2014
Enter the feathered world of finches in this dynamic free-flight exhibit—they’ll even come right up to you for food.

Toledo Zoo

'Keet Retreat will be in the former Butterfly Conservation Building. Watusi cattle will join the zoo. I think they well be in the Tembo Trail in the former camel exhibit.
