Toledo Zoo Toledo Zoo News 2021

Hello. I’m not a regular member in this chat, but I visited the Toledo Zoo today and they have the huge African savanna yard split into three sections. The first section looks like it’s only for dama gazelle, the second is for watusi, giraffe, nyala, kudu, and ostriches, and the third is for the reindeer, camels, and yaks. What’s up with that? They expanding the brown bear area, rhino area, adding new animals? The way they have the African savanna divided now seems to somewhat ruin the exhibit. I also noticed that the African savanna exhibit no longer has zebras, wildebeest, or warthogs I don’t think.
So the reindeer, camels, and yaks have all been moved to Africa! now? What the actual heck is going on?! Interesting that they now have nyala though, I wasn’t aware.

Is there construction going on at the Tembo Trail? I'm wondering if they're being temporarily held there for the time being. Bummer the zebras, wildebeest, and warthogs are gone.

Well, yeah. I think there is. Theres gonna be something known as Grizzly Ridge thats gonna have construction start in the near future and open sometime next year. The zoo is planning on expanding the bears' habitat and adding some things to it as well like a training wall and education wall. Now, I don't know if this is the reason why they moved them, but I have a shift today ( 15th ) and the 17th, so if I can remember I could probably ask somebody on if my theory is correct that the animals are being moved for Grizzly Ridge's construction. Although I think Emerson is also/has moving as well for his winter home. Can't remember where, I think it's somewhere in Africa! ? I think? Can't remember, but thats for an entirely seperate project involving turning the building into a restaraunt from what I can remember? I'll see if I can ask about why the critters were moved there.

Okay, so I have an update. My suspicions were almost correct. But the reason why the critters from Tembo Trail are in Africa! at the moment is actually due to the fact that their enclosures are a little too close to where construction is gonna be. I think they'll be moved back once construction is finished, but we'll have to wait and see. Although I did get a notice that the reindeer are gonna be back at The Barnyard for Lights Before Christmas. Hope this helped!

Made a visit today. The Aviary, Great Ape house, Pheasantry, and the upstairs portion of the Promedica Museum were all closed off. Tasmanian devil and indoor hippo viewing were also both obscured/blocked off. Everything else should be viewable, though many animals were off-exhibit (winter being the reason).
