So, I have several updates for you guys from my meeting yesterday.

- Currently Storm and Pheonix, the 2 4 year old Sea Lions, are behind the scenes and aren't on exhibit yet due to confidence issues, however Storm is almost ready while Pheonix is still working on some stuff.

- Scripted shows are planned for the Sea Lions, however I don't have too much information surrounding this.

- The introduction of the seals and the Sea Lions actually went really well, and supposedly they got along almost immediatly.

- Apparently the zoo has had 2 Amur Leopards behind the scenes. A male and a female. Planned as a breeding pair. However, unfortunatly the two don't get along. There are no plans to put them on exhibit.

- This wasn't apart of the meeting, however I did find out recently that Nieve, the Andean Bear, had died due to epilepsy.

- Currently the Mountain Lions are still behind the scenes, however once Kodiak Ridge is complete, they are planned to move into Nieve's original enclosure once the Dingoes are moved back to their original enclosure.

- Grant's Zebras are currently also behind the scenes, however I am uncertain if there are plans to exhibit them. I'm guessing they probably will since the zoo has displayed Zebras before in the large Africa enclosure. But this is just a guess.

- No updates were given about Kodiak Ridge's progress.

Another update for you guys! The zoo offically has Mongoose Lemurs again! There are currently 2 of them, and although I know absolutely nothing about them, it's great to know the species is back. And on another note, Pied Tamarins are currently in the Nature's Neighborhood building alongside a Tamandua ( that they're apparently trying to leash train ), and the original bag exhibit now houses some kind of large arboreal frog species. I unfortunatly forgot the name of the species, but they are now where the bats were. Oh yeah, and one more thing. A white Dove ( again, don't know the species ) has replaced the rats in the same building.

With vacant land on the adjacent Anthony Wayne Trail area, the Zoo is jumping at the opportunity to create a new parking lot, with an entrance gate coming down the line. Furthermore, this will allow the current lot in the area to be cleared away for future animal exhibits.

@Tyrannosaurus-PicoPico Could this be paving the way for what I think this is paving the way for? (E.g. a set of large, charismatic *grey* thick-skinned animals)

Amur Leopards: according to the SSP plan Toledo were due to receive, at some point, 1.0 TOSYA from St Louis and 0.1 NASTYA from El Paso (leaving El Paso leopardless). They are both elderly animals and would be a non-breeding pair. Could they be the 1.1 off-show?

Other 2022 News:

It also seems like the facility has bred Kihansi spray toads, though how many were born is unknown.

Honestly, this seems to be the most likely. The zoo has had the two leopards for several years, so I wouldn't be too suprised if the zoo got the leopards near the end of their breeding age, tried to breed the two, got unlucky, and now theres the two elderly leopards. I'll have to go ask tomorrow about what the leopards names are, and if I can remember and find out? We might find out who the leopards are. I also personally know one of the leopard keepers and have his email, so I can try to email him about the leopards and their names to see if I can get any clues. Or atleast what facilities they came from. Wish me luck.

AYO. THE ZOO JUST GOT CALIFORNIAN SEA LIONS. I REPEAT. THE ZOO JUST GOT CALIFORNIAN SEA LIONS. I have no idea where they're gonna be going ( maybe Arctic Encounter with the seals, but I'm not sure if it would work with the theme ), how many there are, or anything else about them. I don't care how common they are, I'm still very excited for them to show up. Expect to see them this weekend!

It looks like the California sea lions are on loan from the OdySea Aquarium in Arizona.

I was wondering if anyone who has been to the zoo can confirm that Carnivore Cafe is permanently closed. A new restaurant opened in Nature’s Neighborhood that probably replaces it. The zoo hasn’t formally announced the closure. If it is closed, it will be curious to see how long it will stand empty before it is renovated. Especially since it is in the center of the zoo.

Honestly, the last time I was in the building was for a Hallowe'en event last year. And it was mainly used for storage of the candy, non-candy items ( for the folks with allergies ) as well as the wagons to transport the candy to the booths who needed them. However currently I have no idea about what it's currently being used for. I have a shift on the 17th of this month as well as some kind of presidential award event going on for some of the volunteers, including me. No idea what it's about, but I'll be sure to ask somebody about the current status of the cafe. But for now, have a photo of this little fella. :)
