Top 10 Central European Zoos?

Prague
Berlin
Vienna
Zurich
Leipzig
Wroclaw
Plzen
Munich
Dvur Kralove
Warsaw?

I've only visited 5 of these collections but I would like to see more of Central Europe.

I am curious how people can actually rank zoos that they haven't personally seen.

Obviously my opinion is less worthy than that of someone who has actually visited these collections but I think you can get a pretty accurate impression of the quality of a zoo by frequently looking at the photos posted by Zoochatters who have visited, reading reviews and participating in the Zoochat Cup for example. Of course, that is not the same as visiting, but it is as close as one can get without actually setting foot in the place, so...

I will replace Warsaw with TP Berlin I forgot about it :)

...the long debates and discussions in the cup threads help, as do the galleries, as does thinking about how much I would like to visit a collection, as does not taking this too seriously. ;)

I’d agree that through all these different resources you can gain a fair bit of knowledge about a collection, but I don’t see how it’s possible to definitively rank a zoo if you haven’t been.

Some of my favourite zoos are ones that wouldn’t get a high rating by most in a thread like this, while zoos that left me underwhelmed are thought of much higher.

Oh sorry, here is repair:
Zürich
Prague
Leipzig
Vienna
Zlin
Zoo Berlin
Plzen
Wroclaw
TP Berlin
Magdeburg

Out of interest, what makes you hold Zlin in higher regard than Wroclaw?

Indeed - the guesswork does somewhat compromise the quality of the results, unfortunately.... which is why my list omitted Vienna and Zurich, even though it's quite possible I would include them both had I visited.

If you would still list Leipzig and Dvur in your top-10 instead of Vienna and Zurich even when you eventually visit, I wouldn't speak to you anymore :p

It might give you knowledge on the lay-out and collection, but it still doesn't tell you anything about your own experience, overall atmosphere and all the other things pictures can't tell.

My top 10 favourite would consist of roughly (when excluding W-Germany, with the exception of Bavaria):

1. Vienna
2. Zurich (if counted as C Europe)
3. Prague
4. Nuremberg
5. Alpenzoo
6. Zoo Berlin
7. Tierpark Berlin
8. Ostrava
9. Zlin-Lesna
10. Leipzig/Basel/Magdeburg/Tierpark Bern

I don't have any dedicated lists of my top zoos, and views can change somewhat from day to day, but this list reflects how badly I would want to visit again, which seems a fair indicator (as I have visited all mentioned zoos since 2017).

Of the big hitters in Central Europe I haven't visited Wroclaw, Poznan, Dvur, Sosto, Rostock.

I don't disagree.
...that's why I made it transparent, which collections I have not visited. This way you can disregard those zoos on my list not visited, if you feel rating collections not visited is 'wrong/absurd/meaningless/...' ;)

You say that, but then admit you haven't been to Dvůr :p

Which is all well and good, were it not for the fact the thread-starter is allotting points regardless :p
