“Topeka Zoo negligent in death of Shannon the elephant, group who doesn’t know anything about elephant care alleges” ftfy

Yeah they probably a security guard, night keeper or caretaker on grounds at night who had the team on call.

Their Instagram page showed pictures of them venturing outside in late January, but I’m unsure if this means that they are visible to the public.

Do people still say "cowabunga" in America? It seems like a really weird name for a zoo exhibit. I actually googled it to see if it was in reference to something, and found a kid's tv show from the 80s called Camp Cowabunga, and also an actual Camp Cowabunga in El Segundo.

What does it have to do with Africa though?

Gary K. Clarke was Director of Topeka Zoo for many years and he ended up going on something crazy like 150 African safaris and the name Camp Cowabunga comes from him. Clarke actually worked as a consultant of sorts on the new exhibit complex and so in a way Topeka Zoo is honoring his legacy as Director Emeritus.
