I hope the zoo can get rhinos too for the elephant and giraffe new exhibit.Giraffes have the most outdated habitat in the zoo according to the article? What about the elephants?(Is the zoo going to maintain elephants in the future? Are they going out of the elephant business temporarily or permanently? And wasn't this the site of the new elephant exhibit that was planned originally as the next phase for Camp Cowabunga?)
No, there are no plans to bring rhinos to Topeka at the moment. I don't know why that's a shock to you, there are plenty of zoos without rhinos and they're doing just fine. Are there any plans for rhinos coming to Topeka. Topeka never having rhinos in its history is a shock to me.
I've had the pleasure to read the Director Emeritus of Topeka Zoo's autobiography, "Hey Mister! Your Alligator's Loose". In that book, he painstakingly describes the details behind how he brought Topeka Zoo to exaltation, and highlighted why certain species were picked. Hippos were picked as Clarke wanted to have a species associated with water for the then Large Mammal Building, and that was that. How zoos plan their collections can give pause, but I doubt they'd be shocking unless you have a significant stake in said collections. Not every zoo has a Rhino, a Hippo, an Elephant, AND a Giraffe. Are there any plans for rhinos coming to Topeka. Topeka never having rhinos in its history is a shock to me.

On Saturday April 23rd, a healthy baby Malayan Chevrotain was born. It’s great to see zoos continuing to breed this species as they aren’t found at very many zoos unfortunately.
