I was always under the impression that the 4th warthog in the April 2007 litter was named Bacon and the litter was sired by Jack Junior, who as far as I know lived with Pumba until his death in 2009.

Depeder the name list is not updated on the first page. It's somewhat out of date. Glad you liked what I was able to share but the real credit should go to Quartz who started the thread and all who have contributed over the years. I repost it in a moment.

I dont know what to tell you adams7 about the warthogs. I just double checked the studbook and Stephane is listed as their father. Maybe it was an accidental litter? Could be a goof in the studbook but its the whole litter. I thought it was a little weird the litter would be sired by Stephane instead of Jack Junior but I just recorded what the books told me. Now Tale might have been origionally called Bacon and her name changed when she moved and the studbook just didnt have evidence of her origional name. They rely on the different institutions to check their work and if the studbook keeper at Jacksonville didnt know a boo boo had been made its easy to miss.

'King' Louie does not live with the group on exhibit. I don't think he got along with the other males.

The 2.4 meerkats are named after characters from True Blood. I don't know all the names, but 3 of them are Bill, Sookie, and Lafayette

The other 3 penguin chicks have been nicknamed Sparkles, Wolfgang and Squeak. These could change depending on their gender.

Pumpkin is the female porcupine and PJ (or Mr P) is the male.

Shakira has passed away. Not sure when it happened.

Ethel is used in the bird show. George and Gracie live in the Zebra exhibit and their offspring Artie and Zuri live in the Kudu exhibit.

The secretary bird is off-display and lives by Kids Zoo.

Those 4 warthogs (Jimmy, Dean, Schneider and Pumba) do not live at the zoo. They have either passed away or have been transferred.

Thanks for all the corrections, especially the additions.

Now is someone unfarmilar with True Blood is Lafayette a male or female?

I love Squeak for a baby penguin. Just fantastic. Do you know if they know if Penelope is indeed female?

I must have goofed on the Crested Porcupines. I knew that was wrong once you pointed it out. And with the Marabou storks i was guessing from mistaken memory. I hadnt included that in my notes but now have so I wont waste peoples time correcting me.

I wondered about leaving Shakira on the list. But the 2013 SSP draft was put out on June10 with her still listed and recommended to be moved to Dallas with Tori so I left her on. You could be right and shes died between the fall 2012 studbook and the SSP draft and the zoo will make that correction for them before the SSP is finalized later this year. Is your information from a keeper or based on our general zoochat conclusions?

You could be right about the warthogs. I was going off the studbook and ssp from 2011. I didnt know if they were being kept in some off exhibit holding while the zoo waited out their natural lifespan.

I didnt know we had a pygmy marmoset. Is he new?

Does anyone know the new male prehensile tailed porcupines name?

I figured Oakley the owl was off exhibit as I've only seen its parents. Maybe they will put it into the bird show in the future or find a new home for it?

I do know that are more wolves. But your right no one seems to know any of their names except Debbie. Maybe someone can find out for all of us... I'd love to but sadly likely wont be headed back to the zoo this year.

I figured some of the reindeer would be dead by now. I didnt see that many reindeer in either of my visits this year. I think I saw 6. 4 beside the polar bears and 2 in the yard by the pandas. Many of the names have been on the list for quite awihle. Tinsel, Eve and Holly sounds like they might be from the group of christmas named reindeer from the early 90's who starred in The Santa Clause with Tim Allen. If anyone can update the reindeer list that would be super.

Do you know the genders of Zodi and Shadow? Their names are very gender neutral.

Great news that Ralphie has arrived. Does that mean Ellyanna might have left too? I bet they are hoping all goes well with Ralphie and Cassie over the winter and when they open up the Eurasian Wilds next spring their is a pair of ever so cute baby red pandas to wow the crowd.

Im not surprised they are down to just a few barbabry apes considering they are to be phased out. If theres only a handful left I hope they get sent to another zoo so one of them isnt left a sole survivor for any lenght of time. That would be lonely for such a social animal.

Do you know Astro and Dino's genders? Im guessing male because those characters were male but who knows.

Oh thats sad if Crash recently died. Not unexpected he was quite old. If he is gone Im glad I got to see him 2 last times in June. Hopefully they can replace him because they are such beautiful, impressive looking birds.

I still have some questions though but the one most on my mind is the fate of Kota the snow leopard. Hes missing from the recent studbook and ssp. Could be a foul up or he could be dead. Since someone mentioned when I'd false heard there were snow leopard cubs on facebook that one leopard was in their old habitat and the other was in the health center its got me thinking. Was Kota sick at the time and died? Or was it a new male waiting out quarantine? Or am I wasting my time wondering they just needed more space?

Also because I like giraffes has anyone heard from zoo staff if the SSP's recommendation to bring up male giraffe Miles is going through. I dont really care if breeding happens I just dont want either of the girls to be alone should their sister die.

Adams7 again you are a fountain of knowledge. Thanks so much.

We even had to wait a year and a half for Perky to arrive and replace Perky I who died in 1991. Was there a reno of their exhibit around then?

The hippo exhibit was actually home to our very first warthogs (Gonzo and Roberta) during the stretch when we were hippo-less! The exhibit was modified for them (and I think they did a bunch of "modifications" as well by digging), and they were the thrust of a HUGE promotion that summer. They were the first wild pigs allowed into Canada after many years, and I believe some of the first warthogs on display in North America!

ZsaZsa is still alive?!? She must be ancient!

Thanks for the correction. I didn't realize the zoo had so many Barbary apes!

The male Eurasian Eagle Owl is named Luna.

The Kudu calf is named Rio.

The giraffe calf is named Mstari.

Anyone else have any new names to add.

I saw on the Tozookeepers twitter account a photo of a pair of education reindeer out and they said they were Mary and Snowy. Mary is already accounted for but Snowy is a new name for our list. Probably not a new animal just a new name we didnt have before.

I like how the moose have gone from being named after trees to flowers. Might be harder to find a manily flower name for a boy but Ashley and Elliot tend to have girls.

Hannibal is a great name for a giant salamander.

I've learned of some other names in the past couple of months.

Wombat - Matilba (F)

Wrinkled Hornbill - Henry (M)

Jumbo Gourami in the Malayan Woods - Glen

Reticulated Python - Fifi (F)

Meerkats - Bill (M), Tara (F)

Lemurs - Lucy's twins Benjamina (M) and Joshua Tree (M), Lily's twins Lenny (M) Lasonia (F) and Ruby's son Rusty (M)... Louie (M) died so hes off the list.

Great White Pelican - Sheldon (M)

Pink Backed Pelicans - Leonard (M), Howard (M), Raj (M). There are 4 more that arrived later. If they actually use the name perhaps there is Penny, Amy, Bernadette and Mrs. Wolowitz or Soft Kitty.

Southern Ground Hornbill - Biko (M), Mrs. Biko (F), Sansa (?), Arya (?), and last years unnamed chick

Wattled Crane - Moe (M)

Warthog Piglets - Giovanni (M), Winnie (F) and Zuma (F)

White Headed Vulture - Lloyd (M)

Arctic Wolfs (new pack) - Chinook (M), Dora (F). I dont know the thirds.

Lynx - Ember (F), Ryan (M)

Saki - Madeira (M)... Kawa (F) died.

Capybara - Lucy (F) the breeding female, Halle (F), Hallmark (F), Pablo (M) and Diego (M). The boys live in the Discovery Zone.

Reindeer - Snowy (?) and Snowflake (?)... more of the list is wrong we dont have that many but no one seems to know who the others are. All I can say for certain is these two are alive and Megan. Tinsel died at some point.

Babirusa theres a good chance Muna has moved on to another zoo.

Me too. I dont know if the 4 other pelicans are named after the girls but it would make sense. That would easily take care of 3 of the 4. I think Mrs. Wolowitz, Soft Kitty or Bazinga would be great for the 4th especially since Raj doesnt have a girlfriend.

Its great when they pick a theme and run wild. I like that the moose were named after trees and now flowers. I loved when we had ironic names for the warthogs, Bacon, Ham, Sausage and Pork Chop. They have come up with some great naming sets in the past and will do so in the future.

I think when the white lions have cubs Makali's should be African words for virtues like her... I think she was bravery or courage? But Lemons should all be fruits. Baby Kiwi, Bananna, Melon, and Orange? If they go with that I will laugh hysterically for weeks.

I plan on reposting the whole list come spring when we have a better idea of whats back in the Eurasian Wilds. Im sure I forgot some other ones I've added or deleted. And we need to know things like is Kota back? Did Sherri arrive? Are we switching up the red pandas? Do we even have some of the hoofed animals anymore?

Zebras - Luke (M), Leia (F)

Vancouver Island Marmot - Herman (M) best name ever for one of these guys dont you think?

Our friend has an internship of sorts at the zoo for two weeks and she's working out in the Eurasia Wilds. Apparently the snow leopard knows tricks and loves showing them off! Anyway, she said they put down one of the camels on Wednesday and she thought the name was Lizzie, but she wasn't 100% sure. The camel is question was 30 years old, so that matches the age of anyone on the list, they might be gone.

First off welcome to the forum aislingoftea! Always happy to have another Toronto Zoo fan around.

That's sad we have lost a camel. Didnt even have a Lizzie on the list. Pity to lose another old timer though.

Anything else about the wilds you can find out would be awesome and very much apperciated by everyone. If there is anything you want to know feel free to ask. Someone on here is bound to know or will try to find out for you.

Again welcome! Get your friend to join us too. The more the merrier.
