There may be more I don't know about in all categories. Sadly Covid really killed a lot of moves in and out of the zoo that were planned for 2020 and thus will probably impact 2021's number of births and hatchings. We will just have to wait and see what the new year brings.

@InfoSponge, well that stinks. Ryan wasn't all that old. Not good to loose both Tilly and Ryan in one year. Do you have any more info on his passing? Cause? When roughly?

How old were Ryan and Tilly? And were they sick? Also what happened to the other adult female, Ember? The zoo has had quite a few deceased lynx. I remember the other male, Lazarus(died in 2010-ish?) but he may have been older.

To add perspective on this conversation the average lifespan for males and females is nearly 15 but they can live into their late teens even early 20s.

Lazarus was on the older side. He was 12 and had been wild born. I think it was older age related. He also arrived with twin sister Lexi who also died in 2008 at age 12. Their deaths were a few months apart so likely unrelated.

There is a male we had in for a few months in 2009. It was a year old wild born animal. We were the first place he lived so he must have had something wrong with him that made him no longer a candidate for release back into the wild. Could have been tied to his short life.

We got a male cub Opi in 2009 from Winnipeg (likely a rejected cub). He was moved on a few years later to Rochester.

Ryan was 8.

Tilly was only 6 and arrived in 2017. I dont know the specifics on her death other than she went down fast. If I remember right she was throwing up or not eating. They took her to the Health Center to be diagnosed. She perked up a little but then they came back one morning and she was dead. It was symptoms to death in days. It was a shocker for staff.

Hamilton is two and was born in 2018.

Ember and her two kittens, Emma and Emeraude moved to Parc Safari in 2017 as she and thus they are super low ranking genetically. They wanted to bring in a better match for Ryan. Ember is 11 and her girls are 4. She did have a failed litter of males with Ryan in 2015. One died within days and the other Malaki had leg abnormalities and he ultimately needed to be put down at a few months old.

If we go further back we had some successful litters in the late 80s from Samantha and a male whos name I dont have. Both of them lived into their 20s!

With Hamilton being two will she get a shot at breeding? Since her father unfortunately didn’t get another shot? As well what will officially replace the Arctic fox if we don’t get more of them?

I honestly have no clue what will happen with Hamilton. She could stay and they could get her a mate. She could stay and just live out her life alone. She could be transferred out to breed which given the animal plan we read seems likely since lynx are a phase out species. Just get it over with now that we are down to one.

Dont know about the fox either.

Let’s hope 2022 is a better year. I imagine 2021 will be a year with more transfer, deaths and arrivals. If Pemba, and Nisha come then Cubs could happen in 2022 as well if cheetah Emara begins breeding then 2022 can be a year full of Cubs. As well I can confirm Tom and Zohari were together from Sept. 14 to 24 at least. So if all goes well maybe 2022 will have a rhino calf. As well let’s hope this spring we get either cheetah or tiger Cubs. But I doubt it.
