I am so disappointed in the arrival of Ralph. I want the watusi gone. The zoo is wasting a massive exhibit it could better use for a conservation species with an SSP. But no we are keeping domesticate cattle. I was so close to my dream... down to two and they were the oldest two we had. Now we are resetting the clock with a 2 year old. Ugh guess I can cross another zoo dream off my list. Yes Im being overly dramatic but my disappointment is real.
I don’t think you are being dramatic
@TZFan - not at all! With the recent departure of our last Wildebeest, I quickly started pondering the possibilities (whether it be increased breeding or the acquisition of a new species) for two large exhibits within the savanna. Canadian held, endangered species with an SSP like Addax or Scimitar-Horned Oryx (the great return!) would look great in those spaces.
I understand the zoo is in a big transition phase, but the acquisition of a domestic species signaling further years of holding them is not the best message to send to passionate zoo fans like us. If they were mixed with others, I don’t think any of us would really care, but the fact that they take up a sizable space, a newer barn, and hold zero conservation value really stings.
Having said that, there is still a lot to be excited for when it comes to new individual animals, births, and exhibit developments! The current leadership team are world class, and having just wrapped a 6 zoo visit across 4 European countries, including the magnificent Zurich, I am confident that the TZ is in the right hands.
