There's a video of the birth of the zoo's youtube. Jita did such a good job of cleaning and nursing the cubs, especially considering it's her first pregnancy. Good girl Jita!
Hoping for healthy cubs. So happy Jita is grooming the cubs and taking care of them as a first time mother.Jita the snow leopard gave birth to two cubs overnight May 13th. The zoo just announced their arrival today. So far things have been going well with her grooming and nursing well. Hopefully they grow up healthy!

Yay new otter! It'll be nice to see a new face in the America's Pavilion, that area feels kinda empty without the beavers. The Zoo announced on their social media today that 2 year old Maybelle, a female North American River Otter, has arrived from the Calgary Zoo recently and is completing her 30 day quarantine now and then will move to the America's Pavilion. They note that this is an SSP recommendation though if it is specifically a breeding one, although I would love some adorable otter pups.
Personally, I feel the America's Pavillion should have this tandem wapiti-bison-grey wolf-black / brown bear- otter-beaver followed by a representative group of native songbirds, amphibians, reptiles and freshwater and migrating fish species.Yay new otter! Is there a reason we didn't get those two male otters from Calgary last year?
I do not think they could have 2 packs of wolves nearby. The artic wolves are already living in the tundra pavilion. I do not think the zoo will be housing these two packs so near.Personally, I feel the America's Pavillion should have this tandem wapiti-bison-grey wolf-black / brown bear- otter-beaver followed by a representative group of native songbirds, amphibians, reptiles and freshwater and migrating fish species.
Do they have pure-bred Arctic wolves Canis lupus arctos?I do not think they could have 2 packs of wolves nearby. The artic wolves are already living in the tundra pavilion. I do not think the zoo will be housing these two packs so near.
What species is Annie? At the zoo today and noticed all of Annie's signage is down in the Australian pavilion. Is she gone?
What species is Annie?
Where were you looking? I haven't been in about a month - but Annie (the echidna) did move from her old spot with the Wombats into the front exhibit (Puzzle the Tree Kangaroo's old exhibit). At the zoo today and noticed all of Annie's signage is down in the Australian pavilion. Is she gone?
I was there a couple weeks ago and I think both the echidna and the bettong have been moved from the old tree kangaroo exhibit. The signage for both of them has been taken down now that the cockatoos have been moved in.Where were you looking? The kangaroo have been named Nigel and it is male. We can now see Tori and Nigel in the walkthrough from 11am to 3pmLooks like Tori is the mom according to facebook. The roos have been on fire lately, Simon and the girls have been good to us year after year. It'll be nice to have another little one in the walkabout this summer.
