Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Births, Deaths and Transfers 2024

Well, that is absolutely heartbreaking news. Certainly not the outcome anyone was expecting. My heart goes out to the zoo and the team.

It's been a rough week for zoos in Canada with young deaths :(

I just noticed on the Assiniboine Zoo thread that per their member email they're sending a female cougar to us on July 8th...is that to breed with Bowen our new guy eventually? Do we know if she's here yet and/or is on quarantine?

If so, that would make more sense on why when I went to buy my zoomobile ticket today the zoo employee said the new cougar wasn't done quarantining yet. I thought at the time he was just confused about Bowen, but then just now read about the female from Assiniboine, Teeka.

As far as I know she is here and in quarantine. I am sure once she is out of quarantine the zoo will make an official announcement.

The zoo has recently posted a video today all around the physiotherapy on elf the snow leopard cubs has been having. Looks like good progress is being made. I think this may delay their debut however.

Interesting I remember seeing something similar on at least one if not two of the zoo documentary shows floating around. Both times it was snow leopard cubs, so while not common, it doesn't seem to be a rare event either.

So Trilly died without any offspring, the Moose is also on the list of phase out?
Yes that is correct - Trilly passed without any offspring. I do not think there was ever intent to breed her though as she has spent her entire life at Toronto zoo with her sister Lily who is still living and a male was never brought in for either of them.

It is shame that Moose are not doing well in Canadian zoos, they are magnificent species and one of the local fauna stars.

Moose are doing well in my back yard if they just remove the hunting from this area (Central Frontenac), they are making babies and running my motorcycle trails.
Guinea pigs lol at Riverdale we raised guinea pigs and rabbits by the dozen for fresh kill carnivore food.

The zoo has not announced it yet but female wolf Dora and moose Trilly have passed.
Was Dora the only female Arctic Wolf?

(Question based on the TZ Animal Names thread, which I know is not complete by any means, but she's the only female listed so I'm asking)
