Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo- Births, Deaths, Arrivals and Departures 2013

There is a cool interactive winter zoo map on the zoo's website. Some of the species mentioned I haven't seen at the zoo in a while.

Geeze they are finally listening to me. Did I not just say we should have an interactive map on the website with animals inside the pavilions shown? Oh ya and good pictures. Maybe someone who works in the zoos web department has secertely joined us and is listening to our ideas? I mean first a decent web page for Remy with info on his family (and identifying features of the adults), photos, vidoes, and a hope of further updates... now an interactive map with good photos.... Just saying...

Ok if they are listening to us... update the cute alert already! Spring 2012! Come on you have missed a ton. 3 warthog piglets, 5 lemurs, 2 kudus, 1 giraffe, 1 southern ground hornbill, 1 yak, 2 or 3 camels, and now a very cute polar bear cub, (im giving them a pass on Shakira the zebra because she died). Id also like an online store for gifts... why not move into the 21st century with the rest of the online world. Id like to see updated animal fact pages with info on the individuals at the zoo, new photos of the same quality as the new map, and a current list of species. Blogs from keepers and volunteers would be fantastic with places for people to comment. It would be more interesting and build better relationships between the zoo and public while also attracting guests from outside of toronto. And as always WEBCAMS. No better way to build devoted fans of the zoo then letting them be part of the zoo from home. I know money. But get some company to sponsor it. I dont care if its the microsoft panda cam, i just want the cam. And you could find a ton of volunteers to man the cams from home.

Go ahead webpage designers for the zoo mine us for ideas. We are full of them.

Really? I doubt many zoo employees have time to read your miles of posts. Like us they have many wishes for the web site, but it takes time and money. They also need a better webmaster, in my opinion.

This is not a wealthy zoo. My 2-year membership renewal was increased 45% and our Toronto property taxes pay a significant amount toward the zoo budget. They have other priorities than the website for those funds.

Oh I know I was really just aiming for a laugh. I know the zoo doesnt have the money to do the wonderful list of ideas we all have. I just found it humorous that Arcticwolf, Cypher and I have a shared vision of what the website could be and suddenly they started to do some of the things from our list.

The zoo does a fantastic job with what little money they get. But your right they definitely need a much better webmaster. And if they would angle it right they could probably get the job done for free or a reduced cost by letting the webmaster add a section for businesses who sponsor things at the zoo have their own adds and give the webmaster a spot. But they seem to shun corperate sponsorship... likely due more to the city's control than the zoos own personal desire.

I would bet staff in each of the departments have amazing ideas for every aspect of the zoo. Its a pity that I dont think even a tiny fraction of them are realized.

Sorry Mr. Wrinkly for making you think I had lost my mind and really believed the zoo was listening to us on the forum. Of course they dont have time to troll the net looking for ideas. I was just letting my natural sarcastic and dry sense of humor take over. I swear I havent lost it yet.

They don't need a better webmaster, they just need a webmaster period. That position has apparently been vacant for quite a while now.

Last spring I had some interaction with someone online replying as Webmaster - maybe it was a fill-in and I wasn't impressed.

The zoo has some corporate sponsors but no real biggies - they are a tough sell. Probably because of the city's involvement and now the bad publicity over several issues.

CTV is a sponsor so I am thinking of writing them to sponsor a Pandacam. However I suspect the zoo might plan to install one when/if a cub is born. Hopefully they did some wiring during construction because that would be very expensive to do later.

I follow Zooborns and found TZ hadn't put anything up for about two years, so after the new cub's pictures went up I wrote to their marketing department and a few days later they put him on Zooborns. Maybe they will keep that up for others.

Good thing you contacted the marketing department. I have contacted Zooborns for every birth but got told at one point the zoo wasnt always cooperative. So I contact zooborns, let them know and leave it in their hands. They know who to contact. Maybe the zoo will be more inclinded to cooperate now.

You are so right. CTV should sponsor a panda cam. Great partners. And heck if they give them exclusive first rights to use the footage to announce the birth and prime viewing and reporting spots for all birth announcments at the zoo. And maybe even the exclusive rights to film the vet checks for the cubs Im fairly sure CTV would be all over that. They seem like great supporters of the zoo. Loved it when Tom Brown threw a mic in the polar bear pool a few years back! If you dont know what Im talking about go to youtube and type in Tom Brown and Polar bears. It will be there. The look on his face is hilarious.
