Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Births

I am a bit confused, in a issue of the Collections Magazine it was said that the Reeve's Muntjac gave bith in 2008. I thaught the zoo had only one left?

I am wondering if the zoo will ever breed lion-tailed maquaces, white/indian rhinos. I know the zoo is waiting for the Indian rhinos to become of age, but I am unsure. As well as the hyenas?

Toronto zoo have bred three Indian rhinos 2 females and a male (pic in the gallery), The zoos old female Indra had died some time back and the adult male Patrick lives in the southern US at White oaks.

At the moment, yes, we only have one muntjac left at the zoo. The baby you are referring to was born in January of last year, and unfortunately did not survive.

Other birth news: one olive baboon (with two more females possibly pregnant) and a female Bactrian camel (being hand-reared in the Health Centre).

In the collections magazine it said that 3 out of 4 female baboons were pregnant! Congrats on the 2009 babies!

Chrissie the tree kangaroo is expecting a baby! The exhibit is closed now due to her pregnancy.

Savannah, the sable antalope had her baby at 3:34am today!

Excellent! How soon do you think she'll be on exhibit? I've never seen a baby sable antelope before (National Geographic doesn't count)- this is really exciting :)

I don't think he/she will be on exhibit for a couple of weeks.

The Toronto Zoo has had many births and hatchings. I became a member in late 2005. I am putting together a list of births from then to today. It’s astounding to see how much the zoo has done for conservation. These gatherings are based on the Collections Magazine.

Giraffe breeding status

I just had a thought go through my head about this so I decided to ask. As of right now, is Toronto going to continue breeding there giraffes and If so, when?

Just a few corrections. Good job though on making this list

Wow, that is an impressive list! I'm planning on going to the zoo next Friday or that weekend, maybe by then the baby Sable and Guar will be out. I will definately be taking pictures!

ZooGoer, the giraffes (Stripes and Twiga) MAY be going together this year for breeding (Ginetta will not be bred as she is quite old). Until recently, it has not been possible to move many ruminants (including giraffes) to the USA. The border has recently opened, and so hopefully we will have more options for moving offspring.

Meaghan, the baby gaur is already on exhibit, with the rest of the group (he's adorable!). The sable antelope is still off exhibit, but will hopefully be going out soon.

I wish I was going to the zoo today! What a great day to go!!! I really hope there is a baby giraffe! Ungulate, is the Tundra opening on August 1st? And I know I might be thinking to far into the future, have you heard if they are planning on breeding the polar bears?
