ZooGoer, the giraffes (Stripes and Twiga) MAY be going together this year for breeding (Ginetta will not be bred as she is quite old). Until recently, it has not been possible to move many ruminants (including giraffes) to the USA. The border has recently opened, and so hopefully we will have more options for moving offspring.

Meaghan, the baby gaur is already on exhibit, with the rest of the group (he's adorable!). The sable antelope is still off exhibit, but will hopefully be going out soon.

Thanks Ungulate, glad to hear the border is now open to ruminants as either wise theres not much option to send babies to in Canada. Also good to hear they won't be taking the chance with Ginetta as her last baby was stillborn wasn't it? It most likely had something to do with age

The zoo also plans on breeding zebras this year. Shaka and Shani are supposed to be introduced.

Thats good to hear considering they've been very successful and its an endangered species

Are the lions due to be breeding because they looked as though they were in heat the other day.

According to this, Ngozi is pregnant. Her off spring will be first fourth generation in North America, and possibly the world?

Wow, great news! Great video too. Could'nt belive that was Subira though, last time I saw a picture of him he was about 10 years old and so much youunger looking. Thanks for the video

I think this thread is fitting, are the pygmy hippos a breeding pair? I also checked ISIS and it said we have 1.2 river hippos, are they also a breeding pair? And I never knew we had 3 hippos, I always see 2 on exhibit.

The zoo is trying to get the pygmys to breed, but I may be wrong. There is no breeding pair of river hippos sadly. That is because the are are related, (siblings?) the 2 hippos you see are 2 females and if you see one on exhibit it is a male, I think they switch the hippos halfway throughout the day.

Ah, I do hope the pygmy hippos breed; it's also unfortunate that the river hippos are all related. :( Thanks for info Quartz.

Bang-on with the hippo info, Quartz!
The pied cormorants have moved into the Australasia Pavilion and have apparently settled in well. We also had a litter of snow leopard cubs born last week! (It will be a while before they are old enough to venture out on exhibit).

Great! I plan to go to the zoo tomorrow! Do you know is the baby sable antalope is on exhibit yet?

Terrific! I can't wait till the cubs are old enough to be out on exhibit; the last litter proved to be very photogenic and it was an all around incredible experience having them check out their admirers. I can't wait to see the cormorants, too!

Great news, especially about the snow leopards. Koda and Tiga have been a very successful pair so far comparded to the zoos' last pair, Olaf and Lena. Just two questions, how many were in the litter and where have Maya and Kazi (The 2007 cubs) gone?

I believe yesterday was the baby sable's first day out. Hopefully he'll be on exhibit this weekend.

ZooGoer, we don't know how many were in the snow leopard litter yet, but keepers have seen at least two. I'm not sure where the 2007 cubs have gone.
Also, the Masai giraffes Twigga and Stripes have been introduced for breeding.

Thanks Ungulate. Good to hear about Stripes and Twigga as well. I never realized he was kept seperate from Twigga and Ginetta

Stripes is always seperate from the girls. In the summer months he is usually in the long "hallway" that leads to the exhibit.
