Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Developments 2019

The website has been revamped. Looks like most if not all areas have been retooled to make it more friendly for users.

The zoo has a survey out for guests so they can learn more about what the public wants to see and how the zoo should promote itself. Many mundane questions but some of them are interesting. One asked something along the lines of what would you like to see the zoo do more of? One of the options was see a TV show of the zoo. If thats back on the table sign me up! Interesting to see some of the things they may be thinking about doing more of. I'm glad the zoo is asking these questions. Will they listen? Probably only to a degree but its a chance to have our voices heard.

@Cat-Man, where they were kept every time... I'm not so sure. I know I remember seeing them in the tree kangaroo exhibit I think in 1996. I feel like they may have been in the old lion tailed macaque exhibit in 1988 but that's recalling a memory from when I was six so lets not trust that.

They were brought in each time only to serve as a summer exhibit. All belonged to San Diego and left at the end of the summer they arrived... accept the last set who both died here. Their deaths at the zoo may be why we haven't had them since.

These are the koalas who have visited.

Thanks for your response! That’s very helpful to me.

One more quick question - when you visit do you have any luck with the Echidna? When I visited it/they were absolutely nowhere to be seen.

I myself have tried looking for her multiple times. No success recently, but I think there's a best time to see her and never really went at that time.

@Cat-Man I have yet to get lucky with echidna, Annie. She's been around as long as I have visited and I just never get lucky. She still is alive but is very old. May not be as mobile as she once was. Every time I go I hope to get lucky. It would be like winning the zoo lottery for me.

We have had 2 echidnas with names...

Norman (M)
Born:1965, WILD
Transfer: 5 Nov 2004, Toronto Zoo
Died: 20 Feb 2013, Toronto Zoo

Annie (F)
Born: 1982, WILD
Transfer: 23 Aug 1984, Toronto Zoo

Annie arrived with another female whose name I don't have. She died 13 Aug 1996. So basically there was never any real hope of breeding or real attempts. There was no chance until 2005 and even then Norman was about 40 years old.

Saw Annie twice this year during extended hours, echidnas are nocturnal so the later in the day you go the better your chances.
The keeper also said Annie is as responsible for digging the tunnels as the wombats

Did we get any word on what the special species the Zoo plans to host will be? Also earlier in the thread, someone said they wondered if the second orang yard would take over the Sumatran Tiget exhibit—where are the tigers going?
