Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Developments 2022

@Zooer the tower out here is not a surprise at all. Nice to see them working on it for sure but there was always supposed to be an off shoot run for the O-line out here. It's been the plan since they developed the actual plan for the exhibit. The question is will they continue to run the line out to the entrance plaza as in the Master Plan now or at a later date?

@Zooer So that's why they were digging a hole when I was there last week, I figured they were just fixing a pipe or something. Man it's gonna be so cool to have the orangs swinging town to the rhino plaza and hopefully eventually down to the entrance, I love that the species is finally getting the love from the zoo it deserves after being kinda ignored for a long while.

I could see them stopping in the plaza for now. They probably wouldnt want the orangs being close to the entrance while its under construction for the next 2 years. But I bet the pole is set with everything they need to run lines out to the entrance and into the new brewery/orang space when those are ready. The entrance pole probably would go in as part of construction there. Then hook it up once they are ready to open the new entrance.

Is it me, or does this placement look entirely in the way. I say that, because that is actually a bottleneck spot in the area.

@cypher For now it might be a bit of a squeeze but there's probably some long-term thinking going into the placement, it'll be roomier once Malayan Woods and potentially the Lemur Summer Home are demolished

@cypher its where it is for the future. It will let them tie into the new brewery and shoot on a relatively clear path to the entrance. Plus as @hyena142 stated the summer house is going eventually. The Woods is iffy since it looks like its going to be part of the brewery but thats not necessarily the case. Time will tell.

Yup - I knew it was planned for there, I just thought it was fun to see it actually coming to fruition.

While I was there I didn't think it was in the way (i.e. enough space even on a somewhat crowded day it wasn't inconvenient to move around the fenced off area), but now that I'm thinking about it - if there was an orangutan on the structure right above you, you might want to give it a wider berth than you would a pole in the path.

@Zooer, that's what I was thinking. I get the plans for the future to tie nicely with the brewery and entrance, it's just that it's right before the narrow boardwalk to the Indo Pavilion. Even with the Lemur summer home torn down, it still bottlenecks there. Especially during the summer. I wonder with plans to revamp the boardwalk, a larger pathway is something they're looking into. It would help the crowding for sure.

@cypher they will also need to incorporate a cross-over (in that general area) with the proposed tiger line.

I'm not saying they can't (in fact - I'm excited to see how it's going to turn out), but it's certainly going to be interesting.

Ok, that picture makes it look better. Maybe the placement is off in my mind.

Has anyone heard more about the Eurasia wilds alternate route for the zoomobile? Typically the only reasons I would ride the zoomobile would be to see the orangutan exhibit progress, or the drive thru.

There was also a coming soon picture in that post - does anyone know what it relates to?

What do you mean? The levitating orange rope is something that's been in the plans since the beginning.

Sorry - that was a bad joke about the cartoon orangutan that Dolf superimposed into the picture of the exhibit.
