Other news: the Tundra Trek looks like it WILL include a new species: Arctic fox. There are arrangements being made to acquire two from Winnipeg, and the most recent update I've seen mentions a fox exhibit/holding.
Not specifically, but I suspect it may be somewhere by the "Goose Camp".Do you know where the exhibit will be?
I don't know if anything is known for sure yet. Originally we were supposed to receive Aurora and Nikita (two sisters) from Cochrane, but I haven't heard anything recently. It will still be a while before the bears can move in.Any new news about the Tundra and and news about the polar bears as in how many are comming and their genders?
She left for Florida (St. Augustines, I believe) a few months ago. She had outgrown her exhibit (several years ago), and the move was long overdue. And one more question, where is the false gharial now?
Since they're phasing out the Musk Ox and probably won't be including Carribou, we can cross those outWell this is whats happening, from what I can get from the maps.
Animals Included:
Polar Bear
Arctic Wolf
Arctic Fox
Wolverine
Musk Ox
Woodland Caribou
Snowy Owl
Im sure some arctic birds and ducks for oxbow lake!
Polar Bears:
Will have the existing yard renovated to have lots of rockwork, gravel digging area, rockwork platers will have trees divided some exhibits.
New holding, off exhibit yard, and display yard.
Arctic Wolf:
Rockwork, trees, rocks, the ideal habitat for arctic wolves.
Oxbow Lake will drain into the Caribou, Musk Ox, and Reindeer exhibit. The Camp area will have lots of educational buildings, and tents. There will be lots of rocks/rockwrok along pathways. Interpertive trails.
This exhibit will be outstadning when the whole project is completed.
Re polar bears: I think the plan is to (eventually) breed polar bears at the Zoo.
Interesting, Animal. When did you speak to a keeper about this?
