I just thought that i'd make a little thread for the zoo's future developments like... Tundra Trek,Boreal/Mixed Forests,Tropical Americas,Eurasia,Elephant Expansion (I think they should name it after Toby Styles),New Giraffe House and any others I forgot to mention!

Great idea to start a new thread! The Toronto Zoo has an impressive future, and as long as all of their projects are completed then it will hopefully be a fantastic zoo in the future. All of their ambitious ideas will cost a ton of money, and I have my fingers crossed that they are able to raise the funds.

giant pandas

The thing im rooting for is the very slim possibility of giant pandas.I know this probably won't be happening but I still hope it happens in the future!I agree,Toronto will probably be one of Canada's best zoos (along with Calgary and Granby) by the time its all done.Right now there great,but...some of the older things need renovation and as Unugulate said, the zoo was basically all built at once so it is in steady refurbishment which is going pretty good so far. Can't wait for Tundra Trek!!!!!!!!!

I wonder what animals will be in Tropical Americas?

I've been wondering about that. Maybe anteaters? Maned Wolves? Ocelots? I'd love to see a nice big Amazon tank.

I'm looking forward to Eurasia being redone. I'd like to see the exhibits closer together/enlarged.

IM hoping that the zoo gets amazon giant otters for Tropical Americas.Maybe they could have an exhibit where the river otter and the beavers are and the beaver would move to the new Boreal Forest area once its open.I wonder two things about that as well.1:Where will it be located and #2:What will happen with the current Canadian Domain?

I think the Canadian Domain is being converted into the Borel/Mixedwood Forest. As of now, the beavers and otters exhibits is to be changed into a new Jaguar exhibit.

The Tundra is comming along nicley! The polar bear exhibit is clearly marked and is very easy to see where it will be. The arctic wolf exhibit has begun and is looking fairly nice. There has been some rockwork done. The path leading to the polar bear exhibit (old) from the myan temple has a large rockwork area. (Maybe side of duck pond? pipes have been seen nearby) Rockwork has also been added to the surrounding "bridge" area.

As for cutbacks, I was speaking to a few people today. Some keepers and some designers and construction workers (who were on lunch) today about the Tundra. They said the cutbacks have been proposed but none have been made final.

At the rate of construction the zoo has done on the tundra. It looks like the Tundra will be completed in the spring of 2009 at the earliest. (The Tundra was supposed to opening in late 2008, which was pushed back to early 2009) I hope the speed up the construction because there is hope it opens even sooner.

Anyone following up on this thread. All Toronto Zoo Projects are posted on Wikipedia

it also says there is going to be a temprorary exhibit in 2010 called Cat Food.I wonder what that is all about?and i think you mean Tundra Trek is supposed to open spring 2009 although it was supposed to open late 2008.

How did you find that out?(Cat Food) Ohh yes, sorry you are right.

Good News,im going to the zoo sometime suring late September! So i will try to get pictures of the Tundra Trek progression and i'll post them

The Tundra Trek is actually slated to open in late 2009 :(
Zoogoer how did you find out about the temorary exhibit called cat food?

Beacuse if you go to Wiki they have a part about the temoprary's with parts that sound a bit bogus.

OO well then I think someone just put that there for fun. So its probably fake

im betting so as it says the temporarys for 2009 (which may be believable),2010 and even 2011.I don't even think toronto zoo knows that far ahead!
