I think the Cat Food stuff was another case of Wiki vandalism :P Same with Walking with Demons, etc.

Nice to hear how the Tundra Trek is coming! It makes more sense to me to have the wolves by the polar bears. Here's hoping their new enclosure will be more photographer friendly :)

OMG, at the zoo again today. Was taking my cusin and his daughter around, we got to the Tundra Trek and wow! Has it ever come along way in one week. More rockwork has been done around the bridge, the base parimater of the polar bear exhibit looks to be complete, a building by the polar bear exhibit has become seeable (Most likly the polar bear holding) The duck pond, now looks like a pond and also looks to be half complete. Aswell, the covered seating is completed There is now a bunch of pictures of the newer areas in the gallary and there is picture of more plans for the tundra and the individual exhibits in the Americas Pavilion. I talked to a zoo volunteer and asked if he new about any cutbacks, he said there have been some scedualed but not offical, if it happens to become offical the Musk ox, caibou and reindeer exhibits will be done once the funding becomes better. and yes tey are squezzing in the caribou!

Wow,I wouldn't be surprised if they had it open my about May 2009?So what is the total amount of species going in at the press time? Also, does anyone know where they are getting these polar bears?Im hoping somewhere with recent weaned like Brookfield,Toledo or maybe even Talini from Detroit?

I would be theres still a lot to be done according to those plans lol. (thats the whole project) But the Polar bears and arctic wolf exhibits will be open. Aswell as the wolverine, snowy owles and arctic foxes if they are in the exhibits near by. I also think that the duck pond will be opened too. The duck pond is call Oxbow Lake now! I don't know where the polar bears are comming from. lol E-mail the zoo and find out. I think we may be getting Aurora and Nakita back.

Maybe, you'll really like Aurora and Nakita if they do come back. They are such a great pair and there extremely active! The only thing that sucks is that if they do end up coming back, there would only be the two elderly bears in Cochrane,Bisitek and Nanook.I've been praying that they get a new breeding pair as Nanook and the two girls haven't been the biggest success story.I hope they have feeding time like they do in Cochrane!

Wow, it's coming along really nicely! The wolf and polar bear exhibits already a lot better than their old ones, looks like the wolves will really be able to stretch their legs. Goodbye ugly mesh and concrete city!

Actually, there are more plans in the Americas Pavilion. Each exhibit has there own plans and they all seem to be really neat! It is hard to understand but it looks like its going to be amazing.

Here is the North Zoo Redevelopment Site! (For anyone following up)

First Phase: Tundra Trek
Second Phase: Eurasia
Third Phase: Mixed Wood/ Boreal Forest
Fourth Phase: Tropical America

Other Toronto Zoo Projects include:
Elephant Expansion
Giraffe House
African Pavilion Renovation

wow, I'm kind of excited for this zoo with all the new exhibits opening in the near future. I've always been a fan of the Toronto Zoo even though I've never been there, probably it's because of their oustanding collection. do you know how much all this is going to cost?

If the zoo does get the funding,im thinking about 250 million dollars. How many do you guys think Tundra Trek will cost,10 million?

The $250 million dollars goes towards:
A $32 million revamp of the Canadian exhibits, including a grizzly bear compound.
A $21.5 million education centre focusing on biodiversity and sustainability. The structure will be built to top-rated environmental standards.
A $17 million permanent giant panda exhibit. The zoo has an agreement with China to get the animals, but still needs co-operation from the federal government before the pandas can be secured.
A new animal health centre for $8.3 million.
A $32.8 million conservation fund that would allow the zoo to fund projects anywhere in the world.
A $2.5 million fund for reproductive research so the zoo can breed more animals. That's in keeping with the zoo's conservation mandate.

I haven't heard of a price tag on the tundra but in the end it will probably cost 10 - 15 millon.

Wow, the Toronto zoo will have a lot of construction in the coming years. I hope the zoo gets it's pandas.

So do I, these projects will span throughout 10 years!

If the zoo does in fact get pandas, what would you guys want the holding, yards and viewing area to be like?

Top of the line, 2 exhibit yards. lots of plants, rocks, sand pits for digging, or dirt, log reall plants real bamboo, real trees lol! The best exhibits for pandas possible. I wonder where they are going to put them? I do honestly think the zoo has a high chance in getting them. since they already have coroperation with the government of China

I'd like it so there would be three yards and a maternity yard.I'd also love if i looked like National Zoo's new panda habitats (the ones built with Asia Trail). They should also have three large indoor rooms.

probably somewhere along the Eurasian Outdoor Excursion.Maybe if they did get them, there exhbit would be in my Highlands Area idea.

Do you think the zoo is actually redoing Eurasia I think they might just be adding the pandas?

No,i think they probably will redo Eurasia. It is extremely outdated and needs a face-lift.And the path is actually starting to crack up.I think there going to redo all the exhibits here but they will most likely add more species and things (im shocked that Eurasia does'nt have a resteraunt or such?).

well its not high volume, they do have a snak bar though. but its never open. And the Aurstrilaia Pavilion used to be the Eurasian Pavilion. I think the area needs to be redone to but they never said anything about it, all it is, is the Dr. Schofeild memorial and the Panda exhibit. But it does need to be redone, but as time goes by thing have changed... I think they may put the pandas where the reindeers are.
