Well another post, other then the one above. I went on a Biology trip today to the zoo. Extreamly fun, although I did have an assignment to do which only took about an hour. I did see many additions to the Tundra Trek, no pictures though sorry...There is roof framing over the polar bear house, and the bridge, the arctic wolf holding is becoming building like, there are poles in the ground(unsure of what for, but I think it is for the snowy owl aviary) and I think there is some more rockwork being done. All together, I have high hopes of the Tundra Trek being open as early as March of 2009!

Glad to hear that it looks that far ahead.Hey,does anyone know if the wolverines are going to be in the exhibit or not?The last time I heard about them was august and the zoo's update doesn't say anything about them,I just know that the reindeer, snowy owl, polar bear, diving ducks and arctic fox are part of the picture.I really hope they get wolverine since the are a fairly rare species in zoo.Did you know the moose is considered rare in captivity

I didn't know that. You are right the wolverine have not been metioned since the beginning of the project, arctic foxes are a species that keep comming up but all these are maybes!

The moose at the zoo here just died recently. The vets doing the necropsy were saying that they're hard to keep due to their special dietary requirements...or something along those lines.

I really hope they get wolverines still, too. They're such a unique, fascinating animal and from what I understand, active and popular zoo animal.

That's such a shame about the moose in Saskatoon :(

Poor moose, but he's in a better place now.

I might as well mention that in the new covered seating of the Americas Restaurant there is electric heaters, I forgot to say this earlier.

And they have closed the African Restaurant and ripped out that restaurant covered seating i think they may be doing the same there.

Does anyone happen to know if the Red Panda's will be getting a new exhibit in the new Eurasia?I was just wondering because looking at the plans i did'nt see one. Also,I thought the zoo's puma's were both female but ISIS lists that there is one of each gender.I'd think breeding would pretty much be impossible there but I don't know

I think the pumas are actually related. Im not 100% sure but I think so. I would assume they would get a new exhibit, cause they are a preaty amazing animal!

What plans are you looking at? could you link it? I only have this to go buy but I can barely read it. I'm hoping you found a better quality one.

Whats wrong with this zoo????????????????? CUPE, possible strike? almost 100,000 in travelling? The zoo needs to fix there problums! Any opinion?

because CUPE is stepping up there is a possible strike. That goes a long with the other events happening at the zoo like the foundation dissolving, etc.

Don't worry, there will NOT be a strike. (The current contract between the union and the zoo extends for another two years, and strikes are used only as leverage during contract bargaining).

Instead, the press release shows that the workers at the zoo see the problems reported in the papers ... my interpretation is that its intention is to create some "distance" between management and the union, so that if one goes down in a ball of flames the other doesn't get dragged down with it.

Other news: the Tundra Trek looks like it WILL include a new species: Arctic fox. There are arrangements being made to acquire two from Winnipeg, and the most recent update I've seen mentions a fox exhibit/holding.
