That's great news about the baby stable, disappointing is the wolverines :(. I was looking forward for them. Where did the females red pandas come from. R.I.P Ferrous. :(

Thanks for the news Ungulate, just a question. Now that we just received two new females, will ther now be 3 females and a male as the zoo already had an existing female named Sweet Pea if I am correct

I don't remember off the top of my head where the pandas came from. One was from either Calgary or Winnipeg, if I remember correctly. Unfortunately, these are the only two pandas we have right now. Sweet Pea passed away; she was exceptionally old.

Poor Sweet Pea. Regarding where they came from, one was probably from Calgary as I know they had a cub a year or so ago so its likely this is it. I hope they breed. WOuld they have the capacity to in that exhibit. There only two exhibits and if each had cubs there would be at least 5 pandas

Hm, RIP Sweet Pea :(.

I do hope the new pandas will breed, but the pandas are usually up in the trees, NEED NEW exhibit! Btw are the pandas part of the Eurasia phase?

Thanks for the head's up! Shame about the wolverines, maybe they could be incorporated into the Mixed Woodlands area when it's done? I hope that blue's just a primer, too :P Fingers crossed for successful panda breeding; RIP, Sweetpea.

Um ... being in trees is natural for this species ... I always loved that our pandas could actually CLIMB up the trees.

Yes, Zoogoer, we could probably accommodate several babies; we might have to move the male to a different holding to give the females space, but it would work. These guys can be tricky to breed, though.

Wow looks like I missed a lot of activity. So sad to here about the deaths, and I am glad to hear that the sable is doing okay! Whwne you said finishing out hippo chute" what does that mean? I don't mean to sound stupid :P Sad to hear about the wolverines, maybe in the future. When you said Jack went to Granby Zoo, that is one of the cubs right? Is his sister is still at the zoo?

Yes, Jack is one of the siberian tiger cubs on eof Tatiana's two cubs from 2007. I believe his sister Coco is stillt there

Cause when I went last week I only found 3 tigers so she is probably still there.

Our hippo restraint chute is basically a narrow hallway that we can move the hippos through, with the ability to stop them there if we need to do anything with them. We are modifying an existing hallway with some new gates.

Amur tiger-wise, yes, we have 1.2: Tonghua, Tatiana, and Coco (Tatiana and Coco are still living together)

I was just on ISIS and when i looked up masai girafe, it said we had 2.2 with no births in the last 12 months. I just found this odd as i did'nt knwo we had two males?

We don't, well when I was there last week we didn't because I actually got the chance to go inside the giraffe house as I was there while the keeper was there and took a butch of us in for a viewing.

As I found out today, at the zoo again :P. THE TUNDRA TREK IS OPENING IN THE SUMMER!!!! The flyers handed out at the zoo said the Tundra is opening in summer 2009!

Omg!!!!! Thanks for going xD I want to go tmrw and this is very exciting to hear!! Thanks Quartz.:D

really, thats awesome. They'll have to hustle if they are planning to open with polar bears

I wonder if the bears are secured yet meaning if it is Aroura and Nikita and Inuksuk as well as when they are comming? I we get these bears, they were all rescued from the wild meaning they are very valuble individuals to the zoo community, which will only result in a lot of breeding!

I think it is part of the plan, where the exhibit is now will (following previous plans) is where the wild horses are supposed to be.
