I went to the zoo today with friends, and using my cell phone to take pictures, I can't zoom. Sorry :( and it was rainy. Even though it wasn't good weather, it only rained heavy for a bit and stopped. Overall was a fun day, the animals were active and Stingray Bay was fun too, although I didn't get to pet the sharks. :/ The Entrance of the Australian Pavilion was also closed off due to the Tree Kangaroo being pregnant. Enjoy!

Ungulate, is there a way you can possibly find out if the zoo is closing the Canadian Domain for sure? There has been mixed confusions with me because I have heard that they are closing it once the Tunrda opens but also heard that once they finished the Canadian Wilderness Project it will close. Can you or anyone help?
 
Can someone answer this question, the day I went to the zoo we were given maps; on the back it said that the Tundra Trek was opening in Fall of this year. I thought it was in August?
 
If it is last years map then its the date secdualed last year but, they are trying to open the Tundra in August still.
 
The zoo map has been updated on the site, all the regions are colour coated including the Tundra Trek.
 
Very interesting, so the Tundra is opening in August. Personally I don't like the new map. I think its lacking the old stuff.

I've not seen this topic brought up yet on this forum. Cal White, the long-standing CEO of the Toronto Zoo, has announced he wil be retiring at the end of May.

Regarding the Tundra, the zoo is pushing for August 1, 2009. The maps have to be finalized well in advance of their distribution, and so the Fall 2009 was probably what they had to work with at the time. As far as I've heard, the Canadian Domain will remain open at least until the North Site redevelopment is completed.
 
I looked at the map and my thoughts on it are that it looks nice and the color is a good uplift. But...there are no outlines on some exhibits on how the shape of them is. Also, the picture pointing to the river hippo exhibit shows a pygmy hippo? Did they get moved here or something? They did'nt bother to fix the red panda picture ( The panda icon that is actually in the exhibit on the map) which has no tail so it looks like a spectacled bear
 
Saw the baby sable, and much more. The Tundra Trek has surely come a long way since the beginning. I would expect the animals to move in fairly soon. 3 polar bears are comming, Aurora and Nakita and Inukshuk. Can't wait till opening day! There is still much to be done, including signage, etc. as well as finishing the reindeer exhibit. Other than that I guess all thats left is paving and sod. There is a new map of the Tundra in the gallery.
 
That's great news, Quartz. Do you have any photos of the sable antelope baby or any more photos of the Tundra Trek? What new map of the Tundra in the gallery?
 
I just loaded the map, didn't bring my camera. I will take pictures next time I go.
 
I was told by one of the managers about a month ago that they are aiming to open it on the 35th anniversary day for Toronto Zoo, so that would be the weekend of the 15th and 16th.
 
Well the Tundra Trek is opening on August 1 and the member preview dates are July 30 and 31. The Summer Collections magazine is out! ;)!
 
Anybody know what's going on with the cheetah exhibit?
I just saw on the zoo web site that it's under construction at the moment, but I don't recall hearing of any plans for it.
 
They were bulidng a new cave for the cheetahs to replace to old one but as you know, Toronto Zoo can be terrrible at updating there website
