Its nice that they are improving the African Pavilion. We don't like the idea of moving the Canadian Domain we like the trekin down the hill the marsh is so scenic.A penguin exhibit is also a good idea.

The problem is that the Domain is so out of the way, its eletrical is old and becoming tempremental and not many visitors really want to walk all that distance.

Sorry one thing, what do you mean by 'we'?

LOL My fiancee and I are a couple. We both use the profile, sometimes together and sometimes as individuals. We are Team Tapir.

Has anyone heard of possible timelines for other construction to begin? Once the Pavillion renovation is complete. I am really excitied for what the zoo will look like in years to come.

Does anyone have any links to concept art? the zoos masterplan? Any word on the deisgn for the penguin exhibit? I assume that is to be done soon.

I've looked but thus far haven't found anything that hasn't been posted :( I think it'd be neat if they posted it on the website.

That seems to be around the right timeframe.

I'm not sure what I'm most excited to see. :D I miss the 'drills and the hippos and the meerkats, but I'm also excited to see the duikers.

I agree I would love to see that half of the pavilion again, I think it's about time they open it up again, does anyone know if they are planting in there as well? More natural maybe a forest area for the drills? Hippos? Or any of the other species in there? What is it they are doing? Has anyone looked inside recently and can comment on what they've seen.

Don't Know if anyone has seen it yet or not, but there is a giant billboard infront of the entrance to the Fur Seal exhibit that says Penguin Exhibit coming in 2011 with a picture of a penguin on it.

Cool:) Nice to hear the zoo is getting close to ready for this reno. I wonder how long now until we can see some construction, i imagine the majority of the exhibit will be redone, and most likely the seating removed?

I agree, it would be cool to see it revamped. When I was there, there was just a billboard and the sign for "Animal is Temporaily of Display" was still up across the entrance. Maybe they're just in the planning of it right now?

That's exciting news. I'm thrilled to hear the Zoo is taking steps to advertise and generate excitement. There's certainly a lot to be excited about!

Planning is done, the exhibit is scheduled to open in Spring 2011.

Quartz have you seen the plans by chance? I know you sometimes get insider stuff about the zoo, any chance for info on this project?

Does anyone want to guess if next year and at what point in the year, we will begin to see construction on the next big area of the zoo?
They seem to have kicked their butt in gear with all the construction the last couple of years has held, hopefully the next couple will have even more:)
On a side note: My class will be going to the zoo for a school trip in a couple of weeks (i'm in grade 12, and am taking a environmental and resource course). Any chance i will see some construction then? I'm thinking mid october we will be going.

I have yet to see the plans, however I do know that there is $875, 000 going towards the exhibit. Project includes: a new holding, improvements to the exhibit and pools for temperate climate penguins, and barrier free improvements to the public areas.

Designed by: Will be determined in September.

The only construction you will see is the African Rainforest Pavilion and the Eurasian Garden area.
